At last: A proper hotel to serve Crown Heights.
A new five-story, 100-room hotel that will be built at 1550 Bedford Avenue, between Eastern Parkway and Union Street, might provide a needed accommodation option for the many visitors to the neighborhood.
The Bedford Hotel will feature a central courtyard, green roof, rooftop bar, banquet hall, and retail space on the ground level, 6sqft reports.
It’s being built on the site of a former gas station by developer “All Year Management” and designed by New York-based ODA Architecture.
The multiple archways seen in the renderings of the courtyard extend to the hotel’s interiors, with arched doorways and corridors that “hug residents and guests with curved edges that allude to the building’s bent shape,” according to ODA’s project description.
The hotel will be situated across from the contentious Bedford-Union Armory development, bklyner reported, but that shouldn’t stop the potential Jewish clientele.
Crown Heights is home to Lubavitch World Headquarters at 770 Eastern Parkway, which will be a 13-minute walk from the hotel. Lubavitch chassidim and Jews from around the world regularly visit the neighborhood throughout the year.
Local Jewish residents have a long history of generously hosting guests. In recent years, basements and apartments are rented out on a daily, weekly and monthly basis, as seen in the COLlive Classifieds.
This hotel can easily become a more spacious and professional option for visitors. There’s no word yet on how accommodating the hotel will be to Torah-observant Jews with kosher meal options, Shabbos door openings and modest art.
The owner of this Hotel is a Satmar Chosid – Developer . Perhaps all of the Tumlers in the Shchunah would contact him , arrange to meet and discuss our communal needs . Maybe even convince him to turn the hall into a Kosher one so that we would have 1 More choice to pick from . THIS is in the Schunah .
particularly on Shabbos & Yom Tov. Add in inclement weather at times & this isn’t going to be for everyone. Not sure if this will be an asset to the community or not. There’s already hotels on Utica within walking distance if you’re not particular about a Yiddisher environment.
just what did they smoke, why all those weird descriptions? this isn’t a museum, it’s a place to sleep!
just wait till the owners announce the price- per- day for accommodations at this place. all of a sudden the basements won’t sound bad at all. furtheremore, most of the basements can accommodate more than the 2-3 people you can fit into a hotel room, and unlike hotel rooms, most basements have some kind of kitchenette. as for those who are not shomer shabbos and don’t like staying in a frum family’s basement, they probably take the train or a cab to downtown brooklyn or manhattan anyway. as far as not wanting to be hosted by members of the community,… Read more »
Even in the olden days they had inns/hotels . Nice places for people to stay is always an advantage! Kosher meals available etc. even better. Walking distance to Crown Heights most important.
I agree with the idea that we don’t seem to cater to our our own shechuna like in williamsburg. We have enough business minded people who could have made this hotel upscale, profitable and frum at same time. It’s sorely needed.
I hope since it’s not catering to chabad , prices will be more reasonable, or does it already say price range
About time!! The amount of people that visit ch a year…the stresses of finding a place, the shliach who is worried about their baal habos coming and being turned off from the lodging circumstances…
Its obvious the new hotel is way over your head. the most disgusting place I’ve ever stayed was ESHEL. whoever runs it should be ashamed of themselves.
i am so excited. i would like say to No.1 staying in someones basement is not my idea of comfort. I’ve done it many times and paid a lot of money. no coffee. old towels. this close to nasty . all for a ‘mere’ $150.00! Im super excited. This new hotel can’t go up fast enough for me.
Yet when all the tishrei guests come, no one wants to host. At other times there isn’t enough space… if you don’t like it, you don’t have to stay there!
…#2 is kinda right. This hotel isn’t so important (looks like a nuke plant retrofitted as a prison, but whatevs), the important question is why there’s no kosher, high-class hotel right in the center of the shechuna. Eshel is very good, but hardly perfect; there’s a need for at least a few more. We need to do a better job of serving our own community.
New Mivtsoyim Rout
Its about time something like this happened!! Now I”YH, when it comes to Tishrei, Kinus Hashluchim etc, the guests don’t have to rely on people to host them. Whoever thought this idea up I wish you Hatzlacha Rabah in this new endavor!!
Hats off to the builder . Very nice for everyone. Impressed with kosher meal options and Shabbos door too.
With number 10. Who else agrees!
These comments are absolutely ridiculous….Not everything will accommodate chabad, and we need to deal with it….If it doesn’t work for us then that’s the end of it-no need for negative comments, not like it will change anything anyway. And just like #4 said,if you don’t have anything nice to say,DONT SAY IT! Thank u..
agree with #4. People need to stop complaining every time something happens and the area is enhanced.
this hotel option, but if I have kosher options, then there’s nothing to discuss, case closed!
Stop with this negative propaganda. Stop inciting that everyone is out to destroy chabad. This hotel will have no affect on the community. Besides there are enough problems to be dealt with within our community that we don’t need to proactively go looking for others.
community. Most Jews that visit Crown Heights want to be in a kosher environment with mezuzahs, kosher snacks, & Jewish music, etc. Wouldn’t appeal to me if it’s a completely tried environment. Sorry wouldn’t be interested!
My family isn’t frum and this is the perfect place for them to rent so they can visit. They don’t want to rent from frum people . I am not the only one in the community that has non frum family or people they work with who may want to come in for a simchas. Or even face it – plenty of frum people like the hotel type of stay and not a bed and breakfast experience without the breakfast.
im sick and tired of all the negative comments on this site
you people are crazy
you have to find the bad in everything
if you have nothing nice to say then dont say it at all
thank you
The area is fine the people are great mashiyach now
I doubt they will cater to frum people. another way to enhance gentrification and kill the rest of us. Great way for our kids to hang out on the rooftop bar they are making…..,. amazing how in williamsburg they made a kosher hotel, here, who cares how they ruin our shechuna. let it at least be adaptable for our own ppl
many homeowners meet their mortgage payments by renting out basements in their home. Is this quest for more and more luxuries going to affect the lower middle class in our community? you can bet on it- but- parnassa comes from Hashem.. so we will simply rely on him as always…
