During this school year, Jewish Released Time brought Torah to 1,000 Jewish children in New York’s 5 boroughs and beyond.
This year there were camps in 3 boroughs during all the school breaks, with the participation of 350 children.
For the summer, many of the children will attend Jewish day or over-night camps, where they will experience full time yiddishkeit.
Additionally, over the past 12 months, 66 Released Time children left public school and moved to Jewish schools.
I was watching a chanuka rally from 1984 recently and Rabbi Hecht called up a kid from a public school to say one of the pesukim in front of the Rebbe. After, R’ JJ remarked, “excellent, you should be in yeshiva”. And another kid he called up saying “this kid was smart enough to enroll in a yeshiva”.
