The Chabad House in the Maskowski area, located in the south of the city of St. Petersburg, Russia, directed by Rabbi Shmuel and Batya Chitrik, is a warm home away from home for 5,000 Jewish families, providing help and support for anyone who needs it.
Activities at the Chabad Center offer a variety of events for all ages, including Prayers on Shabbat and holidays, Torah classes and clubs for women and men, Lectures for seniors, Sunday school and activities for children, distribution of Shabbat and holiday kits for the needy – especially during thee corona pandemic, Hebrew lessons, Jewish lifecycle events such as Brit mila, weddings, bar-bat mitzvahs and more.
“Baruch Hashem, we have seen great success and growth in our Shlichus,” says Rabbi Chitrik. “Now, we have a great need to expand our space so we can double our work!”
So far the Chabad House operates from a rented apartment, measuring 95 square meters, Chitrik explains.
“The community is growing, and the time has come for us to think about purchasing a permanent building, so that the classes for children will be held every day, not only on Sundays. So that anyone, who comes to pray, can be comfortably and spaciously seated in the hall,” he said.
The Chitriks have been searching for a large and spacious location for their Chabad Center, and they have finally found it.
They have recently found an impressive and dignified 400 square meter building, ideal for the needs of a Chabad house, surrounded by grounds.
The price for purchasing the building, renovating and designing the interior, and buying the required furniture is at a cost of about $800,000.
Half of the amount has already been donated by community members and friends from around the world.
“We appeal to you to help us complete the project! Together we will fulfill the dream and acquire a permanent building for our beautiful community,” Rabbi Chitrik says.
All donors who contribute $180 and above, will be entered into a raffle for a precious dollar from the Rebbe. 3 dollars will be raffled off.
