Second chances indeed.
Rabbi Eliezer Gold, a fundraiser for Educational Institute Oholei Torah in Crown Heights, returned home after successfully recovering from coronavirus on Thursday, the 13th of Iyar.
Family, friends and neighbors stood outside on Union Street to welcome him back with cheers, joyful music and even a quick L’chaim.
Gold, wearing a black fedora and suit, thanked his family for their devoted care and to the public.
“I know you guys did a lot of prayers and Tehillim for me,” he said. “It was touch-and-go there for a while and I really needed it and I’m sure it helped bring me back.”
He said his recovery (“a week ago I couldn’t walk”) was a testament to the power of prayer and Mitzvos.
Gold said that he spent 28 days on a ventilator and when he woke up, he asked when is Pesach. His wife Basya Gold told him it passed.
“I’m looking forward to eating Matzah since I missed it,” he said, adding that he is returning home on Pesach Sheini whose theme is second chances.
On the lighter side, he noted how he lost 30 to 40 pounds while hospitalized. He thanked the medical staff at NYU hospital for the “incredible care.” He added, “You shouldn’t need, but If you do, NYU is the hospital to go.”
