How to deal with an aggressive child? How to balance discipline and love in a classroom? Self-expression versus nullification of self in marriage: when do you acquiesce, when do you fight? How is Tanya relevant to our lives today? How do we change from being mechanical Jews to becoming dynamic Jews? How do we deal with depression and anxiety?
These and other questions are addressed in the third episode of “MyLife: Chassidus Applied,” a weekly webcast on COLlive.com produced by the Meaningful Life Center showing how Chassidus can be applied to all areas of life.
In response to requests submitted after Episode 2, this broadcast will also offers concrete steps to dealing with the issues discussed.
“The goal of these broadcasts”, explains the host Rabbi Simon Jacobson, “is not just to address ‘what’ but ‘how.’ In addition to facts, we want to convey the Chassidic methodology – how Chassidus empowers us to live healthier lives. Our hope is that these broadcasts will help people apply Chassidus to every life situation, and also empower more mashpi’im to think this way too.”
Topics to be addressed in Sunday’s hour-long broadcast include:
· Dealing with an aggressive child
· Mechanical vs. dynamic Judaism
· Depression & anxiety
· Self-expression vs. nullification in religion & in relationships
· Desires: refraining (iskafya) vs channeling and transforming (ishapcha)
· Disciplining through love
VIDEO: Airs Sunday 8:00 PM Eastern Time. Recap is immediately available

In regards to the first issue Rabbi Jacobson addresses—the increasingly aggressive child—in these times a parent has to consider/ask/investigate if perhaps the child was abused. Without addressing it is seriously doubtful that these spiritually based solutions will be effective.
How lucky we are that R’ Jacobson is willing to spoon feed us Chassidus in such a manner!
Thank you!
Thank you Rabbi Jacobson for taking the time to care!! # 3 – spot on 🙂

I L-O-V-E-D your last piece of advise – about how to change the dynamics of the friday night shabbos meal – that we must graduate from the “mechanical” of our performance of mitzvah’s and infuse them with passion etc. – BUT, I would REALLY – ALSO – like to hear real-life stories where this advise ACTUALLY made a difference etc., Rabbi Simon, you are AMAZING, Boruch Hashem, keep up the good work.. just as a piece of advise – maybe to introduce a “new” dimension to the series.. you should leave 10-11 min. for “case studies” people who have gone… Read more »

I never heard Chassidus presented like this. Virtually an entirely new way to look at Tanya, one that we were never taught in Yeshiva. — Actually not a new way, but the way it was always meant to be (it’s only new compared to what we were told). Once you hear Rabbi Jacobson explain the methodology of Tanya it resonates with such truth and simplicity that you say — exactly, of course, it’s so obvious! You realize and appreciate a truth that you always knew but were unable to articulate; the true beauty and gift that is Tanya. For Chassidus… Read more »
