“While I am at a loss to capture what is happening around me, I find comfort and strength in the depiction of the archetype of all things centered and grounded – my Rebbe.”
That’s how artist Hendel Futerfas, who was born and raised in Crown Heights, describes his black and white portrait of the Rebbe with his eyes gazing directly at the onlooker.
Hendel says his art is at one with his upbringing in a loving and warm Chassidic Jewish family and steeped in the tradition of Chassidic mysticism. His early inspiration and namesake was his great uncle, the chassidic artist Hendel Lieberman OBM.
Having earned a BFA degree at The Fashion Institute of Technology, Hendel’s media are broad and eclectic including sculpture, resin, ink on paper, watercolor and oil paint. His artwork is displayed in many private residences and in several public collections.
And he wants his piercing portrait of the Rebbe to also be shared and viewed with the help of a new “Buy One, Gift One” promotion.
Buyers can purchase 1 ‘Rebbe’ print and gift a 2nd print free to a Chabad center or Shul of their choice. The print is on a 100% Hahnemuhle Daguerre Canvas, 20″x24″ (image with border). Each print is signed in acrylic.
