More than 100 people gathered in Atlanta to learn about the Rebbe’s pioneering view on disability inclusion and to celebrate the launch of an important new book on the subject.
“Inclusion and the Power of the Individual” tells the story of the Rebbe’s call for creating inclusive communities. Rabbi Ari Sollish, the book’s author, shared his personal transformative experience in researching and writing the book, and presented five powerful takeaway lessons applicable to everyone present.
“The Rebbe’s message of disability inclusion touched and inspired people profoundly,” Rabbi Sollish said. “The Rebbe’s call for spiritual inclusion is well-know, but his call for disability inclusion is not as known. Tonight changed that, and helped position Chabad as a leading voice in disability inclusion advocacy.”
Dr. Julie Ancis, Associate Vice President for Institute Diversity at Georgia Tech, was one of the attendees. “Rabbi Sollish shared powerful life lessons inspired by the teachings of the Rebbe,” said Dr. Ancis. “These teachings inspire us all to be better human beings through both thoughts and actions that are truly inclusive. They ask us to consider approaching the world in a way that encourages the utmost sensitivity to others as full, complete, and equal human beings who also possess the greatest potential.”
A driving force behind the publication of the book was Mr. Jay Ruderman, founder of the Ruderman Family Foundation and a true champion of inclusion. The book was published in partnership between the Ruderman Chabad Inclusion Initiative and Kehot Publication Society.
“As a researcher who has been studying the experiences of college students with disabilities,” continued Dr. Ancis, “this event had a real impact. I couldn’t wait to get home and read the book. After having read it, I can certainly attest to its impact on my own thought and behavior.”
Over 120 books were purchased by the inspired audience, many of whom purchased additional copies for family and friends.
