I feel this is a necessary decision and fully in accordance with Halachic guidelines as to not cause a Chilul Hashem.

That the Shliach did the right thing for the circumstances – and it is a Muslim country, so he has to tread carefully – is true. He, after all, knows a lot more about the facts on the ground there than you or I, and clearly he felt it was necessary. But there is an unfortunate tendency, anytime a detail of Yiddishkeit is set aside because of some societal consideration, to immediately jump to calling it a Kiddush Hashem because it’ll get “likes,” where sometimes – though not in this case – it’s actually the opposite.
