40 years ago, in the beginning of the year 1982, the Rebbe instructed Bais Rivkah to write a Torah and to pass on the privilege to their families as well.
This is done by allowing them to buy letters, thereby uniting all those who are connected to Bais Rivkah worldwide. The Rebbe said that by buying a letter, one becomes an automatic supporter, and promoter of this incredible unity that the Sefer Torah will bring!
As people began buying letters, a Duch was sent to the Rebbe that 1,000 letters have been purchased for the Bais Rivkah Torah. The Rebbe said that this number must be intensified, and within two and a half months of this announcement, 50,000 letters were purchased! Over the years, seven Sifrei Torah were completed, with letters bought by anyone associated with Bais Rivkah worldwide. This included men, women, and children, ranging from parents to alumni and supporters as well.
There are 7 Sifrei Torah for Bais Rivkah written to date, and now the school will begin writing the 8th Torah, celebrating the 80th year since Bais Rivkah was established by the Friederker Rebbe.
On Sunday, 7 Shvat, Bais Rivkah will be hosting a Haschalas Sefer Torah of the new Torah. Supporters, friends, and fathers of our students (past and present) are invited to join for a Lchaim and a chance to write a letter in the Torah.
“No doubt this initiative and show of unity for Bais Rivkah worldwide will give the Rebbe lots of Nachas,” said Rabbi Moshe Pinson, the school’s Director of Development.
