On a normal day it’s mikvah bags, towels and rushing to be on time to chassidus after a good night’s rest. But today is not a normal day. Today, those who made it to bed at all begin to stir early. They quickly finish their morning preparations and rush to join those who have been up all night. After a quick Davening and a danish, the day begins.
There won’t be Gemoros and Chasiddus today. Rashi will not argue with Tosfos and Chavrosos won’t be breaking the Rashba down. Today there will be a lot of red bull, sugar, jumping up and down, screaming and dancing.
Usually Reb Yisroel Freedman’s classroom is full with bochurim and their seforim, but today a large worn box of costumes is dropped off as the guys start to arrive. As hats and jackets are removed the atmosphere in the room transitions to what you may find in the dressing room of the circus.
One bochur becomes the makeup artist while others become wardrobe assistants. While some dress in old ill fitting clown costumes others get into chicken jumpsuits their dads sweated in decades ago. Pockets full with candy, big red smiles painted on there faces and a bit of ‘hydration’ and the clowns are ready for the Lag Baomer Parade!!!
Commercial Photographer Avrohom Perl spent Sunday morning at Oholei Torah photographing the bochurim as they dressed up for the Lag Baomer parade. You can see more of his work on his website or follow him on Facebook.
you are so cool you ARE NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Go Levi Druin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
not true. It is Sholom Zoebb.
You forgot Tante Tzippa and Bubba Raiza!
What do you mean?! The rabanims takana of 20!
It is actually Motti. I am his chavrusa and I know that Nachum did not dress up as a clown. I don’t know what kind of a neighbor are you to not tell your neighbors apart, but it is Motti.
go levi druin!
-ur camper from SF
ummm… I am actually the Zoebb’s neighbor, and I know for a fact that it is Nochum. Motti is slightly different, but it is extremely hard to tell unless you’re his neighbor, like me
“…nothing to clown about…” pun intended?
nope. It’s actually Motti Zoebb. But yea, Nochum looks identical since they are identical twins.
His website.

MENDY GOLBERG!!
What a Kiddush HShm ! AP you did a 1st class photo shoot. This is so much more powerful than the many ordinary photos posted daily. Attention Schluchim and mosdos: A few simple shots can tell a story better than multiple point and shoot or iphone photos. The latter are wonderful mementos but should not be posted indiscriminatly.
from ur uncle downunder
Yanky and Shaul. Great Job!
ur friends down unda
You are the best. we loved seeing you from Israel.
Me too
Only a Lubavitcher בחור is capable of this extreme level of ביטול. Just think a תלמיד חכם closes his sefer and dons a clown costume בשמחה רבה. Like the tanayam of of old at theבית המקדש on סוכות. Indeed these special חסידים reflect our revered and beloved רבי
WHERE IS TANCHUM RAPOPORT???!!!!!!N(FROM VINELAND, NEW JERSEY!!!!!)
Do you know what “Coulrophobia” is? Let me tell you, it is nothing to clown about. My children have Coulrophobia, they are terrified of clowns, and that is no laughing matter. Please be sensitive when I or other mothers ask you clowns to keep your distance from our kids. Some children and adults are simply terrified of clowns. No kidding.
otz you rack
Hope you get newer costumes next time in Yerushalayim! They actually look nice in the pictures. Told my bochur’l that if he ever wears one he’d better close the back so his clothes aren’t peeking out.
Avrohom Perl,
Thank you so much for this thoughtful idea of yours. It was a nice feeling to see that the effort we put in to the parade was recognized.
Much Hatzlocho!
You made lots of people happy. May you always merit to do so.
Please though, next time, come over to the second section of the parade (EP between Kingston and Albany) a lot too. There were lots of little kinderlach there that would have loved to see more of you. We did get to see the PJ Crew runnin’ all around, but us folks and kinderlach closer to Albany Ave would have loved to see the clowns and chickens more, especially all the funny antics we got to see a bit from far away.
Thanks for the Simcha
Who was the clown wearing sunglasses?
He went around making everyone smile. He really made a lot of people’s day.

You were awesome! Loved the spirit!
take your pick!
love it!!!
I wanted to say thank you to the clowns but wasn’t sure how. Here’s my perfect opportunity.
Thank you for noticing our children and showering them with attention – you made them feel like stars! You kept on coming back for high fives and hugs. You put huge smiles on their faces. Thank you!
As a Kindergarten Morah – I agree!! I was sitting at the fence facing the parade route & the clowns were fantastic this year, throwing candies to my class, handing us a handful of candies for those who didn’t get, making little shows to keep the kids busy…
Amazing! Thanks for helping Mo-town!
When i was a “bocher” in Yeshiva, the clowns on Lag Ba”omer were called TRC Roshei Teives for: The Rebbe’s Clowns…..
Great job guys! Hatzlacha in learning.
The highlight of Chaim Tzvi’s day was seeing Levi Druin asa clown at the parade!!!!!!!!! Thank you for running such a nice program in shul.
As a kindergarden teacher I want you to know that no part of the parade is as exciting as the clowns. Every time one of you comes close the entire class gets excited. Keep it up.
Valeu Mendi Goldman !!

O melhor de todos!!!
Mazal Tov!!
go yacov go
Love it!!!
I love how bochurim, in almost all chassidishe stories, have no names. They are just called “bochurim,” not from anywhere, no back-story about them, just completely interchangeable characters.
Jk 😀
I love the pictures! So happy to see Eli! Too bad we couldn’t be there to see him live in action!
Awsome
I see Levy Druin. Keeping with the family tradition. You make us proud
Regards from Slovakia
