Decades in the making…
The legendary Italian hat maker Borsalino has finally opened a store in the heart of the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn, after years of serving Lubavitch Chassidim through other stores.
The new store in the Lubavitch hub follows their first two shops in the Jewish communities of Flatbush in Brooklyn and Lakewood in New Jersey, in an effort to create direct interaction with its frum clientele.
The exquisitely designed shop, a replica of the their store in Flatbush, boasts gleaming cream tile, custom woodwork, and sparkling fixtures, all down the block from 770 Eastern Parkway, on the busy thoroughfare of Kingston Avenue.
The idea to expand to Crown Heights came about a year ago, Reuven Kaminetzky, Director of US Operations, told COLlive. “We knew we had a large customer base in the Litvish community, which was perceived as the largest frum community. But we saw the demand, and larger than expected customer base which was traveling from Crown Heights, and we wanted to provide the same service to them as well.”
Although the other Brooklyn branch is only 15 minutes away, they wanted to accommodate the many residents and visitors to Crown Heights, who often come for short trips and don’t have time to travel out of the neighborhood to shop.
Customers can expect the same legendary Borsalino quality and craftsmanship along with exceptional customer service that the brand is known for, Yitzchok Pevzner, manager in the Crown Heights store, told COLlive.
“We want to be able to provide our Crown Heights customers with the best quality and service, for those unable to travel and for those simply looking for the convenience,” he says.
Hats range in price suitable for every customer, starting at $195 to $295 for the highest quality. “We made sure to provide a lower price point option, so as to accommodate all the customers in the community,” Pevzner says.
“With the Borsalino company in Italy now under a new management group, it is an opportunity for us to expand our activities and cater to the Chabad customer base which is important strategically,” said Kaminetzky.
