Over the course of the last 25 years, the Cheder at the Ohel has become renowned for its outstanding education, unique warm environment and small class sizes. The Cheder has been continuously growing and evolving into the stellar Yeshiva that it is today.
“Today, more than ever, Chinuch is a vital component in every child’s life. The school that a child attends, and the teachers that teach him will directly impact the child for many years to come,” says Henny Preger, Board Member.
While there is no doubt that children today are different than they used to be, the Cheder’s ideals and standards will never change, because the values of a true Chossid never change.
The work of an educator in our times is to imbue the warm chassidishe and true Torah values into the children of today. This is the goal of the Cheder educators.
The Cheder is proud to announce their new principal Rabbi Shmuel Gniwisch to the Cheder team. Rabbi Gniwisch will strengthen the curriculum and add even more chayus to the Cheder environment.
“The Cheder at the Ohel was established for one purpose,” says Rabbi Gniwisch. “To give children the best Chinuch al Taharas Hakodesh, in the warmest and utmost chassidish environment, and to infuse children with the warmth and spirit of Chabad Lubavitch values.”
“We accomplish this through a high-quality curriculum taught by dedicated teachers, hands-on activities, and extracurricular programming in an atmosphere of true Ahavas Yisroel and Chassidishkeit,” he says.
Starting from Pre-1a through Grade Eight, the school’s aim is to nurture true Chassidim of the Rebbe, to inspire and empower students to reach personal excellence, and to be responsible members of their community.
Within its warm, nurturing environment, the school cultivates within students a love for learning, guiding them in developing academic and social skills, and fosters responsibility and confidence in each individual child. The small class sizes ensure that each child receives the personal attention that he deserves.
The Cheder’s dedicated teachers put their hearts into every student’s growth and progress. The Cheder is not only a Yeshiva, it is a family.
The Cheder Vaad consisting of Rabbi Yossi Deren, Rabbi Yitzchak Hassine, Rabbi Yossi Lebovic and Rabbi Mayer Preger are devoted to overseeing all Cheder responsibilities.
The Cheder is located in Long Island, just ten minutes from Ohel Chabad Lubavitch. The student body is comprised of children of Shluchim in Long Island and Chabad families around the tri-state area, including the 5 towns, Queens, and Crown Heights. Complimentary transportation is provided for Crown Heights students.
