Dear community resident,
The primary election for Mayor, Comptroller, Borough President and New York City Council is scheduled for Tuesday, June 22, 2021 (Yud Beis Tammuz).
The people chosen in this election will run New York City for the next four years and will have a major impact on the lives of every family and individual in Crown Heights. There are three council districts that serve Crown Heights: Districts 40, 35 and 41.
We cannot afford not to vote! If we work together, we have the numbers to make a difference and elect people who are closer to our viewpoint.
We must make sure that every person over 18 in our home is registered at his or her Crown Heights address. We need the numbers to overcome powerful forces that want to take this city to the extreme left.
We have more than 15,000 potential voters in our community. But only four-thousand are registered, and less than three thousand are registered Democrats. And still not everyone turns out to vote. This all means we are under-represented for absolutely no reason. We must be able to show every single politician in this city that we mean business! We have the numbers, we have the votes! We will go out and vote on June 22nd, and we will never be ignored again!
Organizations like DSA (Democratic Socialist of America) and other anti-Israel and anti-Semitic groups will be working tirelessly to run a slate of anti-Israel candidates during this election.
There are also candidates and groups calling to defund the Police. Defunding the Police would obviously be counterproductive and dangerous to New York City.
You might not want to register as a Democrat, and that might be because of the recent actions taken by specific elected officials affiliated with the Democratic Party. New York City is unfortunately a one-party city. For us to have a voice, and to ensure that our needs as a community are met, we need to work within this system. This requires every registered voter to change their party affiliation to Democrat, and if you are registering for the first time, to register as a Democrat. Your party affiliation does not prevent you from voting Republican in the General Election in November, if you wish.
Signed,
Dovi Sperlin, Rabbi Moshe Klein, Moshe Pinson, Yossi Garelik, Sruly Clapman, Moshe Malamud, Zaki Tamir, Chanina Sperlin, Eli Cohen, Shaya Gordon, Avremel Lokshin, Mendy Gansburg and Levi Djian.

This is terrible and disgusting.
I hope New York does move further and further to the left.
Defund the police!!
We will hold you accountable for every attack against Jews here
Let’s turn our attention to the black people being murdered on a daily basis in this country.
The number of black people being murdered on a daily basis by other black people is a couple orders of magnitude higher than those killed by police. So why doesn’t that concern you?
FBI hate crime data shows that blacks commit 28% of hate crimes despite making up only 14% of the population. Black commit more hate crimes than any other groups. The data also shows that Jews are proportionately more likely to be victims of hate crimes than any other group, including blacks.
Considering the data, it’s insane that you’re trying to get Chassidic Jews who have been terrorized for decades for NOT being black, to ignore antisemitism and focus on a much smaller issue that doesn’t affect us.
Blacks aren’t murdered daily , in fact more whites are murdered daily !Every single cop puts there life on the line for us , as a jew I was hoping you would understand we have a mitzvah of hakaras hatov and actually appreciate it , but as a liberal or a democrat or a poorly educated Republican (which would be a surprise ) I can’t expect you to understand such things , even though they are quite simple ! Every person murdered from “police brutality)” either resisted arrest or did something wrong , nit saying they deserved murder . Those… Read more »
So you like it when our enemies win?
I’m Russia, you would have been the Jew who turned their fellows over to the KGB
I’m an orthodox Jew, therefore I stand with the oppressed. I fight the system that’s killing black people and taking rights away from women. If your enemies are those who are being murdered for the color of their skin and for their gender, then I proudly stand with them.
you should be in favor of the police, since without them, orders of magnitude more black people are getting killed. Without them, thugs like George Floyd are threatening women.
Who murder for the ‘color’ of our religion. So we’ll excuse you from standing with us while you choose who is entitled to life and the freedom to walk around unassaulted.
Do you know nothing about the history of antisemitism in Crown Heights? Defunding the police is the first step in making Crown Heights Judenrein which it seems is the global goal of progressives.
I’m so concerned for the future of Orthodox Jews when I come across comments like this that reveal a complete lack of education with regards to genocide, including the Holocaust.
Why don’t you educate yourself about the horrors of antisemitism and what’s been going on in Crown Heights. For many many years we have been terrorized for being Jewish. Why don’t you recognize that?
Preaching about racism here is like walking into a concentration camp and telling the Jews how poor Germans are being killed by allied bombs.
Please learn to empathize with Jews before lecturing us.
China bot alert
I followed this advice years ago and regretted it. The DemocRats are terrible and always have been. Republicans have to know that they have our vote. This will give them the confidence to run and win.
This is such an ignorant way to give up your ability to vote. The Republicans knowing how many voters are registered does nothing for Yidden when people want to run NY like Sedom.
If everyone stops worrying about what they are registered as and use their ability to vote and make it count we can change things, if even a little, in the right direction.
Fake news: when you register as a democrat you can vote in the democratic primary and then vote for the republican in the general election.
Also you can change your registration.
Maybe the Jews should have joined the Nazi party as well to “influence it from the inside”
Could not have said it better myself.
Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, Adam Schiff and Jerry Nadler are proud of you for lending Jewish creds to their “progressive party!”
If joining the “nazi party” would save lives by taking it over from within, then Torah would mandate that we do that. Need I mentioned that common sense would say the same.
So do you abide by the Torah and common sense? Seems like you don’t.
Yes, the Democrats are JUST like the Nazis. I’m glad our community isn’t being hysterical and reactive.
Thank you & bless these devoted Activists for this crucial outreach. As I’m sure you have seen, many people simply don’t want to register as a Democrat because they don’t understand how our (broken) NY system works. This is a great start. This must be the beginning of a huge information campaign and formal Voter Registration Drive, with tables set up on Kingston Avenue & in our shuls, staffed by knowledgeable people. We must also register the hundreds of our youth who learn out of town or work out of town on Shlichos so that they can also vote thru… Read more »
Politics should never reflect Torah values, religion has no place in government. Leave all religion out of our laws!
Rabbosi – Everyone must get really serious immediately for this to happen ! This article is simply not enough.
It doesn’t make sense to keep going back to the well, and hoping the NYC style Democrat will help the Shchunah. Why not build up the Republican party?
I would rather work on a party of Gullianni than any Democrat!
It make take time to get CH off the drugs of the Democrat party, but show me one Democrat that truly cared about Crown Heights?
So instead of doing something, you will do nothing. Good job!
Have you done anything to build a republican party. Talk is so nice. But until you do something it’s really same as sitting on your couch.
Let’s work with what we have. Register as a Democrat and vote for the one that is the least bad for us.
Because in nyc there are 9 million registered democrats and only 1 million registered reupublicans so your measly few thousand republican registrations wont do to much.
However, a few thousand more democratic votes in the upcoming 9-way democratic primary for mayor could mean the difference between the (guaranteed) democratic winner being a centrist or a far left wing extremist.
Are there any centrists left in NYC?
My numbers were off:
Its 3.75 million registered democrats to 570 thousand registered republicans.
Still worthless to register as a republican.
This is what Democrats believes in ( from their platform). How can a Jew , especially a Chabad chosid, support such a party.every woman should be able to access high-quality reproductive health care services, including safe and legal abortion. We support a negotiated two-state solution that ensures Israel’s future as a Jewish and democratic state with recognized borders and upholds the right of Palestinians to live in freedom and security in a viable state of their own. Democrats oppose private school vouchers and other policies that divert taxpayer-funded resources away from the public school system, recognizes LGBTQ+ inclusive, age-appropriate intimacy… Read more »
…if you don’t register as Democrat (and vote in their primary), then you’re making it possible for more candidates who believe in these to get elected. Is that what you want?
Don’t associate with wicked behavior. We have to make a stand for sheva mitzvos and the protection of Eretz Yisroel by not registering for a party that opposes them.
See, someone is going to be nominated on the Democratic line regardless. (And, given the demographics of New York City, that person is then the odds-on favorite to win the general election.) So your virtue signaling about not “associating with wicked behavior” simply allows the further left, the anti-Semites and those who support immorality, to get nominated and then elected. Is that what you want?
Um Mike lindell’s documentary proves cyber voting fraud beyond any shadow of a doubt. We will need to first ensure every vote will count by getting rid of those completely compromised voting machine systems. Until then your vote won’t count regardless of who or how you vote. Sad truth. The media has been working overtime to belittle, marginalize and censure the evidence. Republicans are just as traitorous as the Dems except they are still pretending to care about you. People wake up! https://rumble.com/vdlfb3-mike-lindell-absolute-proof-forbidden.html
How about crown heighters register as Democrats and then actually vote for Democrats. Liberals are looking out for and defending the rights of ALL people, and that’s something that orthodox Jews should actually stand behind not just because G-d demands it of us, but because it’s the right thing to do.
It’s important to distinguish the left from the extreme left. The left are liberals, the extreme left – who we’re most worried about, are anti liberal. They are against free speech and support cancelling anyone for not supporting their agenda 100%. They are the ones terrorizing Jews all around this country.
Sure, if those people have skin darker than a certain tone, or are from certain countries, or lead alternative lifestyles, then the Democrats at least put on a good show of defending their rights. (At least unless, for example, they get killed by someone else from one of those groups.)
Jews and other religious people (except Muslims)? People with pale skin? Men? Nah, those are just “deplorables” whose “will needs to be broken” and who need to be “re-educated.”
BH!! Small minded, intolerant orthodox Jews are not going to change the progress this country is making. The future is liberal, we are becoming a more equal, just, and kind country every day.
If you want to vote against your own interests and the interests of so many individuals who are hurting right now just for the sake of pushing your religious agenda on others, then good luck fighting a losing battle.
Col- please add that voters have until feb 14 to switch their registration from republican to democrat in order to vote in the june primary.
If the community votes for any one of these chosen candidates without first making demands of said candidate, they won’t do anything for the community either. If you really are activists, pick one candidate to support and demand him/her to come to Crown Heights and pledge something in return for our vote.
As a life long registered Republican I say Next time you are a victim of a violent crime and you have not voted or you are registered as a republican, look your self in the mirror because you enabled it!
Use your brain not your hart, if you are registered as a democrat you can have a say who is nominated to run as a democrat and prevent anti Jewish and anti israel politicians from being nominated.
It’s in our hands to save our neighborhood and our city.
Wake up!!
and move from socialist cities to republican states and cities while you can.
it was always obvious how important for us to have sway in democratic primary. Only lately do i hear selfish voices who care more about feeling good identifiying with a political party (u can & should still vote rpub.. in general), than the vital intrest & clout of our community.
Anyone with a brain these days can do their own research and choose to register as republican,Democrat or independent.
The point is to VOTE!
That is why we need to register Democrat and certainly vote
The democrats want everyone to become wards of the state, creating dependency, limiting choices & freedoms, accepting every neurotic whim as a normal lifestyle. And then printing trillions of dollars of worthless paper to pay for everything. The democrats have never done anything for US — going all the way back to FDR.
Black and white perspectives are never healthy. We need to find the gray in the middle. Do we agree with all of the democratic policies as Chassidim? No. But choosing to sit out the democratic primaries because we get stuck with needing be a registered republican is enabling the liberals to take over. That is us ultimately digging our own grave. The mayoral primary is one of the more important elections of our lifetimes and to miss out on voting because we are registering as republicans is a big mistake.
No one is advancing progressive political platforms. The truth is that ALL the political choice here in NYC happens during the democratic primaries. So far there are nine democratic candidates for Mayor and one will be the winner. How? Based on which one received the most votes in the primary. Only registered democrats get to choose. Don’t you want our community to matter? As a block we can make a difference. Some candidates will be more favorable than others. It matters.
We are yidden who cares democrat or republican we should have achtus
if you let the radical left take over, you will not be allowed to talk about achdus
Gd willing will be moving to no-state income tax Florida later this year. I pay over 2 million dollars in state and city taxes every year. Thats it 60 milliion dollars over the next 30 years. 60 million in tax dollars that NY and its radical left, corrupt activists masking as politicians will never see.
If you have the ability (and brocha) to be so successful in business, then please roll up your sleeves and help our naive community to organize while you are still here! If you want to move, then of course that’s up to you, but please help Crown Heights to understand that votes = POWER
