A Crown Heights family of 5 has lost their home due to a fire. On Shabbos at 1:00PM, a fire broke out in the laundromat on the ground floor of their building on Union Street and spread to the apartment of Dovid Levertov, which is right above.
Miraculously, the family was able to get out safely minutes before the apartment was engulfed in flames.
The family were able to escape with the clothes on their back and almost all their possessions were destroyed. The apartment is completely gutted from the fire. The furniture, clothing, kitchenware, appliances are completely gone both from fire and water damage. They are now living with relatives and have to find a new apartment purchasing everything from scratch.
Friends have set up a fundraising site to help the family.
Help them purchase everything they need to move into a new apartment and rebuild. Donations go directly to the family.

Their landlord needs to file an insurance claim for them IMMEDIATELY!!!
I agree!!
That will take a long time.
The family needs help right now!
Forget about the landlord filing for insurance, yes he can claim for the structural damage but not for the contents of the apartment, that is the tenants responsibility. So please, help if you can, but also make sure everyone has tenants insurance, covering fire, theft, and liability.
This laundromat had multiple Fires already, the landlord knew that.
Yet he let it happen again, at the risk of life and other people’s property.
Do you expect him to post a guard there 24/7?
I live in that building as well, it’s the fourth time this year there’s been a fire as a result of an old boiler and plumbing system. The landlord repeatedly ignored the issue. Multiple times this winter we were left with no heat and no hot water. It is unacceptable.
Can one paypal or cashapp them directly, so they get the money instantly?
This letter was addressed to R. David Nosson Lesser. B”H, 8 Shvat, 5711, Brooklyn Greetings and blessings, I was shocked to read your letter [describing] the fire that occurred in your apartment. Since I do not know if you have the sefer Derech Mitzvosecha ([see] the bottom of p. 228), I am copying a letter of the Tzemach Tzedek which he wrote concerning such a matter: A copy of my revered grandfather’s1 writing: I heard [the following explanation] from [sages] of the highest levels of holiness concerning the popular adage: “After a fire one becomes wealthy.” The progression of the… Read more »
I want to do a fundraising and drive for life insurance.
The money that goes to a family, can go much further with getting people in insurance. Term policies have good prices.
Renters insurance it about $150 a year to cover over 40,000.00
I think getting these coverages just skip our minds. We hear about it and then get busy. I wish we could bring more awareness and help people sign up.
im so sorry, my heart goes out to your family
Where can I mail a check & who do I make it out to ?
