The Jewish community in Kharkiv (Kharkov), Ukraine, celebrated on Monday, 23 Teves, 4 Bris Milahs hosted by Head Shliach Rabbi Moshe Moskovitz.
Performing them were the Mohalim Rabbi Mendel Cohen (Shliach from Mariupol) and Rabbi Dovid Shlomo Gelber (from Israel) and locals were excited for it to happen.
The first bris was held after Shachris to a 6-month-old baby boy who was born in the midst of the ongoing Russian war on the country. He was named Menachem Mendel, after the Rebbe who was born in Ukraine as well.
The next to undergo a bris was his older brother, Amir, who is 4 years old. Then, another bris was done for a 9-year-old boy who is a student of the Jewish Day School of Kharkiv. He was named Avraham.
The final bris of the day was on an adult man, named Alexander. What inspired him was a Chassidic Farbrengen on Shabbos afternoon at the home of Rabbi and Mrs. Moskovitz.
During the farbrengen, Rabbi Moskovitz announced that two mohelim are coming to the city on Monday. Despite his age, Alexander decided that he too wants to have a bris. Participants broke out in rejoining and dancing over his decision.
And on Monday, Alexander also was there ready to do this tremendous mitzvah with true mesiras nefesh symbolizing the eternity of Am Yisrael.
“The whole community was very emotional with hope that in their merit, the Geulah will finally come,” said Rabbi Moskovitz.
