Dear readers,
If you visit Crown Heights (and for that matter, any other frum neighborhood in New York), you get the feeling that the worst is behind us. Having been suffering from Covid-19 for months, and the subsequent restrictions, everyone is happy to roam freely outdoors.
If you go to a simcha, you see people happily chatting, even hugging each other. The stores are full again, and so are some of the shuls. Masks are nowhere to be found.
Summertime at many bungalow colonies are in full swing, with no social distancing being practiced, and everyone having a great time.
That is why I am nervous.
I know someone who just spent 2 weeks at the family of her friend in a bungalow colony in the Catskills. The whole family had Covid a while ago, but not her friend. We now discovered that her friend has been infected, her test just came back positive.
Another case: A person I know was part of a group that took a private plane to New York. Everyone on the plane stated that they were tested and are clear. Well, one of them must’ve not been truthful…because our friend started feeling ill when he came to New York. He missed the simcha he was going to…and has tested positive for Covid.
I am not writing to you to create panic. All I’m trying to point out is that we still need to listen to what the doctors are saying and they are all saying to keep being careful. They are recommending we keep wearing masks and keep social distancing.
Even if the majority of the community has already had Covid and may have the antibodies, is it not worth it to be careful for the sake of the rest of us?
VIDEO: Update by Dr. Ditchek July 8, 2020 regarding COVID 19 reinfection
I honestly thought I was being ridiculous, seeing the community acting like covid is gone is driving me insane. This isn’t over and won’t be for a while. It’s so important to remember that not everyone has immunity and that anyone can carry covid into the community infecting people never infected before and reinfecting others. These people don’t need to get covid, the suffering of these people can and should be prevented. It’s our job to protect the people in our community. It’s time to step up and wear a mask for the sake of not just the community but… Read more »
the reality is that people who had covid and tested positive for antibodies are becoming reinfected. not just in our community but in lakewood, deal, etc. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qjh4WuV94VQ people need to wake up and start acting responsibly in our community
I agree. We didn’t get it yet. I’m terrified to come back to CH at the end of the summer. Everyone should be wearing masks at minimum in stores and in shuls!
I actually really think, if people are really worried, they should be the ones to walk around with the mask and social distance and or stay home, to protect themselves!
you are the epitome of selfishness. you should be ashamed. people can get sick from you and you don’t care. horrific. the masks people wear protect others. they protect you with their masks and you can’t be bothered to protect them.
The people who are ‘really worried’ are worried for good reason! You are not worried because you are ignorant of what the most respected medical authorities in the world are saying! And, the people who are ‘really worried’ and are wearing masks are protecting YOU!
So…be a mentch! Wear a mask!
That’s selfish and you obviously don’t understand how masks work. Masks primarily protect the other person.
So I wear a mask because I don’t want to spread the infection to others and ultimately the more vulnerable.
No one knows how long antibodies protect or even if they do. As we can see is happening, the second wave has begun. Hopefully we have learned over the past few months how serious this virus can be. Didn’t we lose enough precious souls already? Let’s not repeat our mistakes! We must not be complacent and let our guard down yet. Please comply with guidelines!
Someone will be publishing a 100-year COVID Wave Calendar. In it, you will find the calculations for upcoming COVID waves over the next 100 years. It will help you plan and prepare sufficient supplies of masks, gloves and toilet paper. Seriously, do you want to spend your life doing this?
Thank you for saying it as it is.
People should stop declaring others selfish. Many have bad reactions and breathing/health issues when wearing a mask.
If you feel you cant breath with the mask, imagine someone trying to breath with their lungs and blood vessels wipe-out by the virus.
The recent developments are (a) it spreads in the air indoors and (b) resistance to reinfection fades after about 6 months.
So in this case, being selfish equals being stupid.
To collive i know you are not gonna put this comment up because this goes against your narrative you did not put 3 of my comments that had the same idea and you have the right to deny the comment You are being muniplated by dr rosen to put every day another thing about covid 19 Everyone has enough problems of their own because of covid either losing a job or deprest or upset with what is going on in the world they know covid could come again until there is a vaccine I looked at almost evrything on your… Read more »
Putting articles like this is important especially in places where they think they have had covid and everything is fine recent studies from European countries has shown that antibodies and the supposed immunity that comes with it is maximum for a few months after which previously having had covid will not protect you. Therefore it’s important to reinforce and keep reminding people to keep social distancing, masks and sanitization standards
Interesting. Could you please post links to these studies?
you are unbelievable! shame on you. “manipulated by dr rosen” – who do you think you are to speak for this community? dr rosen is our rofeh yedid to the entire community and to lubavitchers all over the world. how dare you? his is the voice of reason and he states the facts based on what is going on in our hood. no one wants to hear what you have to say.
phew….wow, not one comma or full stop!! I am still trying to get my breath back from reading it!
You don’t need to risk another persons well being and health.
What do you think Dr. Rosen has to gain by “manipulating” this website into posting important updates about a deadly disease?
if they do not gain by having this article why upload it.he wants people to start putting on mask again
It gets people informed. If reality makes you mad, that’s on you…
And a 7 year old boy is endlessly repeating “Corona Corona you have Corona “, it’s called mad. Adults are getting more effected by it in the head , then the actual virus and are passing it on to the children.
calm it down!
informing once or twice is enough
I agree wholeheartedly but do not have the courage and do not want to feel
Embarrassed being the only person in
Shul with a mask on.
First of all, you should not be in shul for more than a few minutes. If you are there, set an example and wear the mask.
That’s your opinion, and obviously each one draws the line someplace else. The drs have not said we should close Shuls And botei midrashim down but rather use masks while there.
I walk around w a mask.. ppl look at me like am alien. Yes it’s hot yes it’s hard to breath. It’s also hard to be sick or loose a family member! Haven’t we lost enough these past few months! How close does it need to hit home for ppl to begin understanding?
I walk down Kingston with a mask because I have respect for others and do not want anyone to get sick.
Hydroxchloroquine and Zink.
Zinc
You’re right, I didn’t realize. Please use the Zelenko protocol to protect yourself and your loved ones.
Azithromycin 🙂
the person who did not tell the truth on the private plane was your friend not the others. Covid does not happen instantly so he comes to NY and feels sick. means he went on the plane already with it. now that half your story was shot down let me tell you about the other half, your daughters friend also should not have wemt to the bungalow, anyone that you see hugging had the virus or are accepting that they might get it, we all know the risks we put ourselves in amd no one needs your stories of outliers… Read more »
Why can’t everyone who wants to live in fear go about it without telling everyone else what to do?
You hurt others. This is unfortunately a selfish comment, and as a baltchuva, shows the complete hypocrisy of the “frum” community
being frum is for the person’s best benefit, no one is doing anyone a “favor” by being frum. please don’t mix in “baal teshuva” and “hypocrisy of frum community”-if someone is doing something wrong that is frum, that has to be addressed and corrected- but what does you being a baal teshuva have to do with it? you sound almost like you have something against “the frum community” and that you have made the conclusion that they are “complete hypocrites” and that the reason you may so is becasue you are a baal teshuva. what’s the connection? maybe let’s all… Read more »
WHAT PART OF BLOOD CLOTS CAUSING AMPUTATED LEGS, LONG TERM BRAIN AND COGNITIVE DAMAGE, PERMANTLY DAMAGED LUNGS, NOT TO MENTION 150,000 DEATHS ALONE IN THE USA, DO THESE IDIOTS, NOT SOCIAL DISTANCING OR WEARING MASKS, NOT UNDERSTAND.
You have stated this so well. As I have seen written many times, you can hopefully educate the uninformed or misinformed, but there’s no cure for stupid.
I commented on a picture of a Simcha awhile back that no one was wearing masks. That comment never appeared. It was not approved. I’m curious if this one will be. I’ve heard from several Crown Heights people that they are safe because they had Covid. They can’t get it again and they can’t pass it to others. The fact is, no one can say for certain that is true.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qjh4WuV94VQ
reinfection is happening. antibodies wear off. listen to dr ditchek.
it’s a reality in deal, in lakewood, in other hoods and in our hood.
I’m afraid of flying on plane.
And where do I get 100 year calendar?
“When I was a young man, I wanted to change the world. I found it was difficult to change the world, so I tried to change my nation. When I found I couldn’t change the nation, I began to focus on my town. I couldn’t change the town and as an older man, I tried to change my family. Now, as an old man, I realize the only thing I can change is myself, and suddenly I realize that if long ago I had changed myself, I could have made an impact on my family. The writer who describes a second wave is not far off. Recent research suggests (a) that resistance may fade after 3-6 months, and (b) in a room with other people, the chance of being infected rises dramatically after about 30 minutes. So, masks everywhere outside your home, don’t be inside for more than a short time anywhere besides your home, and no one inside your home besides your immediate family. Two months of this would end it. But unfortunately too many Americans seem to be too selfish to do what is needed. I would like to think we are better… Read more »
It’s never going away, you have a whole planet to deal with. Accept it and move on.
“Accept it”?? Accept 25 consecutive days of funerals?? Chas V’sholom!!
1) Why isn’t anyone mentioning about listening to Doctor Zelenko’s regimen right away when they have any symptoms of the COVID-19 virus? – and talking only about masks and social distancing?? 2) The physical size of the virus is between 1000 and 2000 times smaller than the holes of the masks, so how exactly are the masks preventing the virus From getting through to the people??
Would you rather someone sneeze on your face or on your mask? Huh?
And before covid, how many times did people sneeze on your face?
You want to know how maks work? STUDY THE SCIENCE!!
You know better than the top world’s scientists???
Science is based on properly wearing the masks, which is impossible with a beard. That said I still wear a mask because it makes people feel safer and Rabbis said it’s okay on Shabbos. The science of masks and beards don’t conclude wearing them is a strong enough defense (I’m sure it help some though)
Also, dr zelenkos treatment which has been proven effective is only once you get it. People dont want to get sick and infect others.
once you get it it seems his treatment is working.
Very simply, few are following that regime, because it was tested around the world, many times, and it does not work.
Thank you for a voice of reason. Friends: Use peer pressure for good reason – wear a mask and act responsibly and others with seichel will hopefully follow your good example.
Look, nobody wants businesses to close down again. Wear a mask and social distance so we can avoid that! It’s pretty simple.
I am over 70 and have type 2 diabetes. I have not had Cov-19. I am amazed at the few people wearing masks and social distancing. We in nyc are lucky at the moment that the numbers are down but look at other cities and states+ it is very bad.
I know wearing a mask is not comfortable but masks work and protect people from infections.
Please take the words of this article seriously.
I am so happy this was put up…. there are still MANY who are at risk….. I want to know why , when I go for a walk with my mask on, it seems MOST of our community is NOT wearing masks, whereas a SIGNIFICANT amount of our non-Jewish neighbours ARE!!!!! what a Chillul Hashem!
As you drive down Eastern Parkway, you can see where the Jewish community starts by the lack of masks. It’s sad.
And what’s with 770 even the rabonim don’t care any more there’s even dancing with not a care to the world what would the Rebbe say to all this???
Stay home
i do not know for sure maybe the rebbe might have said not to close the shuls
like the hurricane in florida he told people not to leave or in and the gulf war the rebbe said that isreal is the safest place
we do not know what the rebbe would have said so do not put words in the rebbes mouth
Yes they are a lot more cases now than there was before, but if you would look into it you would see that 1 it’s just because they are more people getting tested, 2 they changed what it means to be positive, a probable case is considered as a new case, as is an antibody test. 3 if you get tested more than once it will come up as several different cases, And if you don’t like to believe this just look at the number of deaths that hasn’t gone up in fact the numbers are going down, And can… Read more »
In fact, the numbers of deaths are now back up to 900 plus a day nationwide, now that the numbers of infections are skyrocketing in Florida, Arizona, California, and other states, the numbers of deaths have started to go up yet again over the past 3 days, back to where we were before. It’s not over, folks.Don’t you follow the news?
Number of death going up, cases “skyrocketing”. At some point, you have to reopen. Many people find it hard or nearly impossible to wear a mask, especially those with breathing conditions.
Fact is, a vaccine is not coming out tomorrow. Masks — especially the simple cloth or disposable masks that many are wearing — do not always prevent corona.
At some point, life has to slowly go back to normal. At this point, we have to resume our lives, with only those at-risk or corona-positive quarantining.
People recognize the truth. Covid is never going to be cured. It is here to stay and it has been in different forms for hundreds of years. We have to learn how to live with it. Those that are vulnerable need to protect themselves. They should wear a mask and stay away from congested places. The collateral damage of not going on with living is by far much greater in number then the few high risk individuals. This is not said with selfishness this is the reality. The rate of suicide, mental and emotional breakdowns has sky rocketed over the… Read more »
Thanks for speaking up.
There is no doubt that the mental illness and deaths indirectly caused by covid outweigh this all. The problem, as with all proven studies, is that we don’t know the true effects until YEARS after. So to say well this dr says this so it must be true, is a load of rubbish. This is a novel situation and if the top scientists do not have any conclusive evidence, then stop blindly following every doctor that puts out a statement.
Curious what our Rebbe would say on all this. It seems like a case of “the blind leading the blind…”
you need to have bitachon
Its basic human decency to wear a mask. Considering the fact that reinfection is possible, how can one be so incredibly selfish?!? We’ve lost enough lives already… But if this article doesn’t hit home then really consider if you have any remaining brain cells.
Just curious, did you read the label on the masks that says it doesn’t protect you from covid?
The mask is meant to protect others. Which is why the comment you replied to said it’s “selfish” not to wear one.
Whether or not it protects the wearer isn’t the only question
Will reinfection ever be impossible? No. So make it clear that your advice is that people wear a mask for the rest of their lives.
Quarintine and stay home L’olem Voed forever and ever. Don’t go to shul Don’t go outside. Don’t buy food Stay home and wear your mask 24-7.
So die? That’s your answer to those who are concerned about their health and the health of their family? They should stay home and die? Even the children? What kind of person are you? If a tiny piece of cloth on your face could potentially save your family, you wouldn’t wear it? You’re really willing to risk the lives of your own family?
…I’m actually very upset that community doctors directly and indirectly implied that this virus was over weeks ago and are now backpedaling! Because of our exposure to this new case in a Lubavitcher colony my family has to get tested today. My husband is in his 50s and does not have antibodies, but even people who had antibodies are getting Covid again. The family thankfully told us about our exposure but did not report it to the community at large. It must be known. This is not fear-mongering. It is responsible reporting. Small businesses can and should remain open but… Read more »
What people do on their own terms is fine! But in public places please keep everyone safe! It’s hardly uncomfortable to put a mask on to go in a store and take off afterwards.
Masks work like this. If you have covid and you wear the mask it stops a lot of the virus from getting out via you breathing. The mask is for other people’s protection, not your own. But if everyone wore masks it would mean everyone breathing is getting a lot of the virus filtered out. Those who are refusing to wear masks should be the one to stay inside, especially since you’ve determined that your own comfortability is worth more than a human life.
Since when does breathing equal spreading COVID??? I thought it’s sneeze, spit, cough, talking. At least that’s what the CDC says.
it’s breathing in someone’s direction, spittle from speaking, coughing, sneezing…any time you expel a bit of air from your mouth you can infect someone
thank you!
Serious question. There are enough concerned residents in CH, it seems, who want to daven according to the Rabbonim and Doctors’ guidance. Does anyone know any shuls that are enforcing mask wearing in the area (other than CAY – it’s not the scene for a lot of people)? If not, can we start a minyan somewhere!?
Great idea.
Email maskshul@gmail.com so we can begin organizing this.
For women also?
How to increase parnosah in the pandemic ? Literally hard to deal with all
I have the same question! I am so furious that 770 goes on as usual with no masks, and sets the tone for other shuls. What kind of people do this? Is there a shul in CH where everyone wears a mask?
Email maskshul@gmail.com so we can begin organizing this.
Why don’t I ever see you on Kingston Ave or in Shul.
In March and April most people wore masks and we had more deaths in the neighberhood
the reason you don’t see me is because i run away from people like you…i hide…my mask protects you and you refuse to do the same for me. i don’t go on kingston because of you. i can’t go to shul because of you.
The only ones being reinfected are those traveling. Anyone who travels should quarantine themselves to keep the rest of the community safe.
people are getting reinfected upstate. no social distancing no masks. too much socializing inside
is your head buried that deep in the sand?? the only ones reinfected are those travelling??? what a ridiculous comment….loook at reinfection in Deal, Lakewood and our hood
Everyone go back into hibernation
Masks, social distancing, gloves, An astronaut suits, Will not take away the plague Of Covid 19, There are more than enough medicines from conventional medicine and alternative medicine that work against the COVID-19 very good but no one is talking about it !!! Why???
zinc, vit c, anything else?
interested to know
For prevention: Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin D3, Zinc, if someone has already the virus, follow DR. Zelenko’s regimen: Hydroxychloroquine 200 Mg. Twice A Day,Zithromax 500 Mg. Once A Day, (if can not take zithromax it could be replaced with Levaquin 500 Mg.) and ZINC.
to speak to your dr. first, especially if you have diabetes or heart issues. This is only being mentioned bec, of things things I read.
I do believe this protocol saved many lives!
I appreciate this article. I appreciate Dr Rosen & Co. periodic declarations. I appreciate the diversity of opinion. And. I’m amazed at the stubbornness of the part of humanity that refuses to believe that some things We.Don’t.Know. COVID is something no one yet has solved. Not prevention. Not cure. Not whether there’s long or short term immunity. Not how it does or does not spread. Not who gets it and who doesn’t. Not Who gets it bad and who doesn’t. But there is government and medical authority. And there is everyone’s individual decision whether to abide by the advice or… Read more »
Everyone is entitled to their opinion about how dangerous covid is and wether there should be another lockdown or what not, but Halacha is clear that practically speaking, one must follow drs directives.
The local roife yedidim have said to wear masks when in public indoor spaces . (At the very least)
