Eleanor Esther Elka Paul, mother of Rabbi Shmuley Boteach and matriarch of the Boteach, Wachtel and DiVeroli families, passed away on Friday the 19th of Shvat, 5783, exactly an hour before Shabbos.
She was 80 years old.
Born in Brooklyn, Eleanor moved to Miami and raised her five children as a single mother. Eleanor was renowned for her kindness; over forty years, she hosted thousands of people for Shabbos, many of whom had no family or money for Shabbos food. Eleanor never cared for money or fame, status or fancy things; she loved Judaism and made G-d the center of her life. She always preached to her family the importance and holiness of keeping the holy Shabbos. Eleanor was famous for her never ending optimism; she was always happy and positive about everything. She loved life and cherished every moment. Eleanor loved the land of os Israel and lived there, near the old city of Jerusalem, six months of the year.
More than anything, Eleanor loved her family; she put her family first always and prioritized them over everything. She is survived by Yitzchak Tzion and her five children, Sara Wachtel, Bar Kochva Botach, Ateret DiVeroli, Chaim Boteach and Rabbi Shmuley Boteach. She also leaves behind her 27 grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren whom she loved with all of her heart.
