The halacha of a shofar is as it is taught in a baraita: How much is the measure of the length of a shofar for blowing on Rosh HaShana?
Rabbi Shimon ben Gamliel explained: It must be long enough that when one holds it in his hand (with four fingers), and seen protruding on one side of his hand and on the other side, i.e., at least one handbreadth – טפח.
