Rabbi Yona Pruss, a pillar of the London Jewish community, passed away this week, after a short illness.
At 59, he leaves behind a grieving family and a legacy of shlichus, a life of chessed, and decades of inspired leadership.
A beloved leader in his London Jewish community, Yona devoted his entire life to Shlichus and the spreading of Chassidus. Even before his marriage, he traveled to the former Soviet Union, and was a partner with Berel Lazar and others in establishing Chabad’s presence there. Yona worked tirelessly as a fundraiser to support Mosdos in Ukraine, helping to secure funds and spread awareness of the plight of Soviet Jewry. Yona’s incredible ability to network and fundraise helped ensure the success of the campaign to bring children from Chernobyl to Israel. Yona’s sharp intelligence and interest in people made him a beloved mashpia in London, and well known for his teaching and his inspired farbrenging.
His generosity was legendary, Yona was a man with a charitable heart and a soulful touch.
Yona leaves behind his wife, Chana, ten children, in laws, and grandchildren.
As we mourn this tragedy, we ask that you contribute generously to help his family cope with this loss.
