The groundbreaking of the “miracle Mikvah,” in S. John’s, Newfoundland, the only Mikvah within a 900 mile radius, took place this past Monday.
Now, tourists that call – desperately inquiring- about a Mikvah in Newfoundland, will have a Mikvah to go to.
After some delays due to Covid, permits and engineering drafts, Rabbi Chanan and Tuba Chernitsky, directors of Chabad of Newfoundland, have begun construction on their Mikvah, thanks to YOUR support.
For the last 5 years, Rabbi Chanan and Tuba Chernitsky have been bringing the light of Yidishkeit and the Rebbe’s vision to one of Canada’s final frontiers in S. John’s, Newfoundland.
(Newfoundland is an island off the northeast coast of Canada).
Boruch Hashem, they have seen tremendous hatzlocho in their peulos despite the small kehila.
With the Mikvah they will be in a position to help those who have reached out about Taharas Hamishpacha in Newfoundland.
Since moving there, their first priority has been to build a Mikveh, but for unforeseen hurdles, they weren’t able to do so.
Until now, the closest Mikvah meant flying to Montreal (2 and a half hours each way) or Toronto (3 hours each way).
The successful campaign they ran in 2020 helped them buy the land with a reasonable mortgage and pay all auxiliary fees, permits, engineers and a portion of the construction fees.
They are now doing a 72-hour campaign to raise the remaining $125,000 to complete the job, which is estimated to be completed around Chanukah of this year.
You can say “Yes!” to all those who reach out to Chabad of Newfoundland, asking about Taharas Hamishpocho and have nowhere to go, for hundreds of miles, other than the freezing ocean.
You can make this Mikvah, crucial for so many people in this remote region, become a reality.
