I’m The Post Gimmel Tammuz Bochur You Speak Of…

Op-Ed by a Bochur born post Gimmel Tammuz: "There have been two op-eds written on the topic of Hiskashrus after Gimmel Tammuz, and while I feel that both have some merit to their points, I feel that both are lacking in some essential areas, and therefore I felt compelled to respond to both." But no one mentions: and If I recieve a answer from the Rebbe and the other party doesnt OBEY the Rebbes instructions, now what? We are talking about alter chassidim of the Rebbe and shluchim! No one is mentioning that their children are being educated that the Igros is a “lottery book” or take it as it comes?! What I feel is destroying the lack of hiskashrus from the generation after gimmel tammuz is the lack of obedience from the alter chassidim that they had something because the Rebbe was physically here and they couldn’t upfront disobey, whereas now they… Read more »

Oh, please if only the elder generation actually listened to what the Rebbe said Moshiach would be here by now! The Rebbe mentioned that many times at farbrengens, chassidim didn’t listen to the Rebbe like they should’ve! Many things would be alot easier if the Rebbe was listened to!! High rent, community council, putting money into Crown Heights and not just putting so much money into upstate…common elder generation learn the Rebbes sichos well! We don’t even have a normal park, pool, and activities for our children! Families are living in one bedrooms with sooo many kids because we don’t… Read more »

Powerful, deep and refreshing perspective. Clearly those born after Guimel Tamuz have a very special relationship to the Rebe and it will take the educators to tap into their world and not the opposite.

This article is just wow compared to the other two, what you write is the absolute truth and lacks the confusion of the other two.

Brings out the point so well.
Thank you so much

Very impressive

Can this bochur post his resume.

Very well written, point by point, all valid and concise and thought through.

And all in a couple hours!

Excellent article, and it’s written with emes. Thank you.

May 21, 2023 8:11 pm

The idea of letting the children figure it out on their own — after all they were given Hand in Hand and I’m a Chosid and have seen enough to long for it on their own— this makes sense. We don’t have to cry out and yell at the kids “if only”. Thank you for signing your name.

This quote right here is source for getting an answer in Igros.

B. If it’s for guidance or opinion, the Rebbe trusted that if the writer wrote to him, then he had enough trust in the Rebbe and his views to have been expected to look into the Rebbe’s available printed works, seeking the answers they’re looking for, even before receiving an official response.

The point made here, brought from the Rebbe’s letter is actually more about using Igros for its original intention, and that is to use it’s index to find specific topics. Not use it as a magic lottery book.

its time for someone to redo these classics. Keeping everything the same just updating the video quality and up to date computers lol. But on a serious note, can someone remake these classics.

Once again Shabi says exactly what needs to be said. I agree 100% with everything written here, and most bochurim I know today do as well.

May 21, 2023 8:40 pm

From someone who was born years after Gimel Tamuz. Yes, we can live with the Rebbe today in a very strong way. Moshiach now!

May 21, 2023 8:51 pm

Couldn’t agree more.

It’s about time.
May 21, 2023 8:54 pm

Maybe it’s time mashpiim stop projecting ideas of what buchrim after Gimmel Tammuz feel as if they’re one of them. It’s impossible for them to claim they knows what it’s like. No one who remembers seeing the rebbe can claim to understand.

To all those who were worried..

Might be time to start a weekly column. I think lots of us would appreciate your insight on a more consistent basis. Dont leave us hanging on Chassidus & the Rebbe’s view of Moshiach being the Essence of reality – today.

It is a truly helpful article. I’m going to be far less articulate when chiming in: Very grateful that the importance of a mashpia in our system was brought up. It doesn’t have to be a mashpia like assigned in school, rather someone whose hashpaa someone likes— can be a businessman who doesn’t have smicha but is so striving to be a chossid. Outside of Lubavitch this point is a kiddush Chabad because it’s true Torah leadership that helps a person live, grow, and connect to Hashem, a Rebbe, and purpose. I know this is not a Lubavitch word, but… Read more »

connection to Rebbe is through a RELATIONSHIP
May 22, 2023 1:24 am

Yes!! Thank you for saying this-from a born after gimel tamus chasid. Just want to point out one thing – the Rebbe chosid connection is a RELATIONSHIP. As in if you try to force a relationship clearly your missing the point. A relationship is personal. You can’t force it Just like your connection with Hashem is a relationship, don’t shove it down my throat-guide yes through learnjng the sichos and teachings and going to 770 and ohel to connect. Love this post, for its energy and clarity. It’s seems though that the new generation is creating, and must create, a new definition of rebbe. Last generation it was neshomo b’guf (and the guf determined the boundaries of a generation). This generation it’s whatever you decide and however you choose to connect.

Incredible. You said what we were all thinking!!!!! Thank you

May 22, 2023 7:49 am

BTW, to set the record straight and hate to burst peoples bubble but do not kid yourself – asking the Rebbe through the Igros and receiving “answers” via the Igros us NOT something that we heard from the Rebbe to do.. This is a man-made thing which people came up with after Gimul Taamuz. What the Rebbe DID say clearly how to act and “receive his answers” is to ask Yedidim Mevinim, Rofe Yedid, going to the Ohel and “the Rebbe will find a way to answer” . “Asking the Igros” and fining a ‘remez” is perhaps a Hasgoch Pratus… Read more »

May 22, 2023 11:01 am

No one is saying that it’s impossible to get an answer through Igros, but there’s a difference between bumping in to a letter and opening up an igros and deciding to fit what it says on the page to your situation according to your liking or understanding, and thinking this is the Rebbe’s answer! When the Rebbe never spoke of this practice at all, and provided other methods.

May 22, 2023 12:20 pm

Thanks for the clarification. Earlier you wrote “Asking the Igros” and fining a ‘remez” is perhaps a Hasgoch Pratus thing but definitely not “the Rebbe answering you”
Great to hear you took it back.

The real problem
Reply to  Igros
May 23, 2023 3:19 am

Is when people turn to Igros IN PLACE of asking yedidim mevinim, rofeh yedid, etc. If there is an esoteric question where nobody can give an answer … that’s a good question but certainly not as a first resort and contradict what the Rebbe clearly told us to do.

May 23, 2023 8:22 pm

The Rebbe also points out that political considerations or pressures remove samchus from doctor opinions, when there is proven influence. Yedidim who encourage selflessness are needed. Those who encourage the opposite are harmful.

There are shockingly clear answers provided when a) necessary and b) the person will follow the Rebbe either way. The Rebbe even also answers in ways that remove all doubt from the situation as to this being a real and personal answer, more often than not.

Question for bochurim
May 22, 2023 11:19 am

This is so well-written and impressive, and deeply moving. To see that quality of real connection to the Rebbe through serious learning, and to see such emes in the younger generation is a very inspiring!
I wonder how representative this is of other bochurim. If there is a core of young men with these ideas and this approach, we have a very bright future ahead!

Wow amazing
May 22, 2023 11:57 am

Amazing hard hitting article; every point raised is solid and thought provoking. I’m sure future oped-writers will start to think twice about the potential blowback before they post all their controversial chinuch shitos…..

Pre Gimmel Tammuz vs Post Gimmel Tammuz
May 22, 2023 12:01 pm

I commend Shabi for a well-written article. And without taking sides, as someone who is almost 50 and was fortunate to see the Rebbe many times, spend Tishrei by the Rebbe, etc, and as someone who went through the “system”, I can state two things from my own personal experience: 1.      For the most part (with the exception of a couple of Mashpi’im I personally encountered), the way we were taught in school and yeshiva to be mekushar to the Rebbe could not have been more distorted and completely opposite to what the real relationship between the Rebbe and a chossid… Read more »

Lately, it seems like many people are falling into the trap of believing that a genuine connection to the Rebbe is all about אהבה, while considering a connection based on יראה as somehow less significant. this notion is completely misguided. In reality, true hiskashrus is founded on יראה and not solely on אהבה. It’s concerning how easily people are getting caught up in this misconception these days.

Beautifully well written

Thank you for voicing the wonderfully refreshing perspective. I do have to disagree though about the system, I dont think it changed to that degree unfortunately. I think as the generations go on (getting closer to Moshiach, the absolute truth) the children have a clearer vision and understanding of what emes is and won’t settle for any distorted versions of yiddishkeit etc And thank you for saying your age. It’s incredible to hear of someone that went on such the journey at your point in life. As apposed to the many which are obviously right and will never change the… Read more »

” opinions among educators are problematic. I believe it is actually healthy for students to encounter different viewpoints, as what resonates with one student may not resonate with another.” It is so vital that institutions internalize that all the talmidim have a spark in them that needs to be revealed. When choosing bachurim for the year, create a group that complements each other with different strengths so that they can reach different types of talmidim in different ways. We are great at catering to those that live and breathe Chasidus. We are great at reaching out to the “fried” kids,… Read more »

Agree with most of what you wrote and you did so very clearly. I think you were way too easy on Berman’s response. The Rebbe screamed in Mem Zayin that anyone who says the Nassi died 40 years ago should know it’s a Sheker Gamur!!! The Rebbe is becoming more alive every year. It’s a Sicha, a video, and a response to a legal case. It’s not personal opinion. And for a Lubavitcher to make a statement in the contrary is radical! Unfortunately, not every bochur today would be able to write such an op-ed.

There is a lot of fanfare today, just like before. It’s not necessarily easier to connect to Etzem. The Kochos are, however, definitely stronger than before to overcome the “Mayim Rabim” of today.

(By the way, I mean “chassidishe fanfare”)
