The Av Beth Din and Chief Rabbi of Iran, Rav Yehuda Gerami, who is in the USA for a short visit, delivered the answer in a Shiur to the Yungeleit of Kolel L’horaah Ma’asis in Crown Heights.
Iranian-born Rav Gerami, a member of ARIS (the Association of Rabbis in Islamic States), who currently serves as the Av Beth Din and Chief Rabbi of Iran, has taken upon himself to revamp the Kashrus and Beth Din of Iran, creating protocols and expanding the available Kosher foods for the large Jewish population in the country.
During his current visit to the USA, which was organized by Merkos-302, and coordinated by Rabbi Mendy Kotlarsky and Rabbi Zalman Loewenthal, the Rav took some time from his busy schedule to deliver a Shiur at the Kolel L’horaah Ma’asis of Crown Heights, directed by Rabbi Sholom Shuchat – Rosh Kolel, Rabbi Shraga Homnick – Sgan Rosh Kolel, and Rabbi Shlomo Greenwald – Menahel.
The Rav delivered an informative Shiur, explaining how vinegar in Iran is usually sourced from Kosher sources but once in a while it can be sourced from wine, and explaining how he was able to ensure that Kosher vinegar is used for the products in his country.
The Rav concluded by wishing the Yungeleit much success in their endeavors.
