In honor of this year’s Kinus Hashluchos, in the year of Hakhel, a special project was organized which truly symbolizes Hakhel and Geulah.
Directed by Mrs. Brocha Friedman, over 60 youngsters from all over Crown Heights joined together to build models of the Beis Hamikdosh which were used as centerpieces for the kinus.
The youngsters volunteered their own time after school to build these models, which were flown in from Israel for the event. Each model comes with approximately 400 pieces and takes 250 steps in the construction – which takes 4 hours on average to put together.
“For this year I tried to come up with something special that exemplified the concept of Hakhel,” Mrs. Friedman told COLlive. “Thank G-d we had a double Hakhel!”
“Firstly, all the schools in the community joined in by sending us students who were interested in participating. Also, the children exemplified hakhel spirit by taking part in a joint project.
“Most of all, each one built a miniature Beis Hamikdosh. In the zechus of this community-wide hakhel, may we merit the building of the ultimate Beis Hamikdosh by Moshiach Tzidkeinu.”
