Crown Heights’ main thoroughfare Kingston Avenue and other streets were closed off Wednesday morning, causing traffic backups on other Avenues.
Construction crews were seen preparing to work on the streets on Kingston Avenue, as well as cross streets President Street, Union Street, and others.
Signs posted in the area stated “No parking today,” however is not clear how long the work will take or how long the streets will be closed.
Yaacov Behrman, Public Safety Chair for Community Board 9, reached out to the Department of Transportation to find out the street closure schedule.
A representative said the closure is scheduled as follows:
Wednesday: Eastern Parkway to Crown Street: closed until 2 PM
Thursday: Crown Street to Empire Blvd: closed 7 am – 2 pm.
All intersections closed on those blocks as well.
In two weeks the streets will be closed again to repave, they said.
There are lots of Garbage for months on the City Street of Kingston Avenue (all the way down till Empire). Hopefully the city workers cleaned it before starting this much needed Repaving of Kingston, but in case they didn’t (and threw it on to the sidewalks) we need to step in. All Store owners to please clean/clear any trash that was placed in front of your business (even if it’s not your fault why it’s there). And maybe to have the organization (if someone can please reach out to them) that a few lubavitchers organized during Tishrei to clean the… Read more »
For the future, it would be a great idea to inform the community the day before instead of the morning that it’s already going on. What a drive I had today!
Thursday: Kingston Avenue from Crown Street to Empire Blvd: closed 7 am – 2 pm.
ALL intersections closed on those blocks as well.
That means there will be bumper to bumper traffic All over CH, Tomorrow morning Thursday it’s not recommended to drive anywhere, as you will be sitting in lots of traffic for over 1 hour just to get 2 blocks away.
Whomever can walk, please walk.
WALK, Don’t drive.
In the past 12 Months, There have been multiple dangerous and large manhole fires on Kingston from President till EP. Since the Street is being Milled today, My understanding the reason why there is a 2 week gap in general between Milling and Paving is, that now the different city agencies have more access to many different street utility boxes that are usually paved over because it’s a street. If Rabbi Yaacov Berhman and the Crown Heights community leaders can please be in contact with the Department of Transportation to make sure that they check/repair/replace do whatever they got to… Read more »
If you really want to communicate with Mr. Berman or CHJCC, you might want to consider reaching out to them (telephone, website), rather than a post here…
It’s good for someone to first post here, get some public reaction and feedback and then will have something more developed to take to chjcc
This means that Thursday very early in morning they will also tow the cars on Kingston from Empire to Crown so they can do the work, Very early Thursday morning. Nobody should park there tonight if you don’t want to get towed.
Closed again in 2 weeks , Just on time for pesach….
Find me a four week gap in the fall or spring that doesnt interfere with any major yt or community event
How about July / aug when a lot of crown heights families are away.
It would be nice if in about 2 Weeks when they are Repaving Kingston to inform the Community, beforehand. The day before and let us know to avoid Driving if possible. Many people that did not have to drive were stuck this morning in over a hour traffic for no reason, if we would of been informed then many people would of simply walked. But we didn’t know, I am not in any way blaming our Askonim (they do great work) they probably didn’t know about this just like us. But I am asking is if the Askonim can please… Read more »
Those of us whose car has been parked on President since Sunday or Monday would not have seen the signs and have our cars towed. A more timely system of notification would have been appreciated. And the Community Council sometimes calls the community with recorded phone messages about other things, I think this would have qualified as a welcome call.
While it nice to drive on freshly paved streets, I consider the frequency a waste of my tax money. And if one says “it’s necessary” I argue, often then roads are fine enough. And roads that deteriorate quickly, I’d rather find a better way to pave that doesn’t require repaving so often. And then there’s the digging that happens randomly, after repaving. There’s no cohesiveness or coordination. Well. the diggers and pavers are making money. Right. That’s politics and government. Yup. Just venting here.
Just another way to waste money and employ these workers.its all part of Biden’s plan.Pretend there are jobs.
