Chabad of South Broward Headquarters, understood the high level of concern surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak early on. As an organization at the forefront of social services for 40 years, Chabad of South Broward implemented proactive procedures to ensure the safety of South Floridians by mid- March.
The services implemented include regular wellness checkups and visitations, assistance with housing, rent, and mortgage payments, delivering personal hygiene items, food, and Shabbos/Holiday meals.
Chabad staff works regularly with online applications for those who don’t have a computer or need help navigating through some of the difficult applications. Chabad’s Administrator Rabbi Moshe Schwartz is a lifeline to the thousands of senior citizens in South Broward, (one of the largest populations of Jewish seniors in the world!) and has been working hand and hand with Jewish Family Services for over three decades!
This includes Social Security needs, health insurance, and food stamps. In the last few weeks requests have increased tenfold. Chabad has received calls from family members in Hawaii and from all over North America to help their old relatives who are alone and in need of essentials such as food and medicine.
Chabad staff and volunteers have been working around the clock to be sure no one is left in a perilous state or without food and daily living necessities.
Rabbi Raphael Tennenhaus, Chabad of South Broward executive Vice President, emphasizes that “although living in surreal and crazy times, it is in precisely times like this, that the best of people is uncovered and shines.”
