A group of Jews spent this past Shabbos, the last one of the year 5780, in the Russian town of Lubavitch – once the home of the Chabad Rebbes.
Leading the group were Rabbi Levi Mundshein, Shliach of the nearest large city of Smolensk, and Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Marzel, Shliach in Moscow.
Together they spent the Shabbos at the shul near the Ohel of the Rebbes which was recently built by Rabbi Gavriel Gordon, who oversees activities and the restoration of Chabad in the town.
On Motzoei Shabbos, participants held a lively Chassidic Farbrengen and then began reciting Selichos ahead of Rosh Hashana. It was the first time in 110 years that Selichos were heard in Lubavitch, Rabbi Gordon noted.
