A memorial ceremony was held last week on Mount Meron in Israel for the 45 Jews who were crushed to death in the same spot on Lag BaOmer last year.
Their deaths on the yartzeit of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai (Rashbi) have devastated not only the surviving families but also the Jewish world as a whole.
The ceremony was organized by Tzviki Tesler who was appointed by the Israeli government to oversee Lag BaOmer this year. Ronen Peled produced the event.
Rabbi Chaim Hurwitz opened the ceremony by reciting Tehillim and Rabbi Yitzchok Ezrachi, Rosh Yeshiva at the Mir Yeshiva in Jerusalem, shared words of Torah and strength.
Rabbi Chaim Shlomo Diskin, a Chabad Shliach and Chief Rabbi of Kiryat Ata, made a Siyum on the annual learning cycle of the Ramabam’s Mishneh Torah as instituted by the Rebbe.
Singers Motti Steinmetz, Chaim Yisrael, Dudi Kalish and Avrehmi Rot sang accompanied by the Neshana choir and the children’s choir Sefaseinu Neranena. It was coordinated by Yuval Stuupel.
The event conclude with an emotional singing of Ani Maamin with the paricipation of the crowd and the large screen showing the singing in Meron last year.
