Rabbi Binyomin Mills, menahel ruchni of the new Mesivta in Monticello, commenting on the first few weeks of yeshiva, reflected, “We feel very blessed to be in Monticello, a growing community. The Yeshiva, in its first two weeks, had a tremendous impact on the community and visitors,” he said.
“It adds a whole new chayus and geshmak for a bochur to see how his being a tomim is not just about his personal growth, but rather he is called on to be a leader to elevate a whole community,” said Rabbi Mills.
In the short time the mesivta has been present, aside from the regular mivtzoim on Fridays, some bochurim have even been going on mivtzoim in their regular daily lunch and supper breaks, encouraging Yidden who live right near the yeshiva to add in Torah in Mitzvos.
In addition, the bochurim have ‘schlepped’ local Chassidishe Yidden to farbrengens and set up chavrusas with local teenagers. One mekurav has even joined the daily Tanya shiurim in the morning.
Mivtzoim Highlights include a dedicated and devoted bochur who shortly after being kicked out of a “Friday Mivtzoim route” person’s office, found an Uber driver who was happy to put on teffilin. Another bochur decided we must do mivtzoim at a police station. Despite being told, ‘police are rarely Jewish’ he insisted and ended up finding a Jewish Police officer right near yeshiva who was moved to put on tefillin for the first time since his bar mitzvah.
The Yeshiva concluded its first two weeks of seder, and looks forward to continuing after Sukkos.
Rabbi Mendy Karp explains: “Bochurim here understand that mivtzoim and Seder enhance each other. The strong emphasis on shmiras hasdorim and limud of chassidus and nigla give a bochur more chayus and emmeskeit that helps him not only be inspired to go on mivtzoim, but makes the listeners more receptive when they see that his words are devorim yotzim mehalev.”
Altogether 12 mesivta age and eltere bochurim made up the group throughout the zman. With a few spots left to fill, the yeshiva is looking to grow in numbers. Please reach out to (845) 397-0703 or email office@yeshivamonticello.com for more information.
This is exactly what The Rebbe wants from our bochurim. Truly involved in learning and davvening, and shtureming away at mivtzoim. Kol hakavod.
Very devoted and mekushar eltere bochurim. They must be training the younger bochurim well
I don’t know all of the teachers, but I wanted to express my extreme respect for two of them. Rabbi Chanowitz A teacher par excellance , very refined Mashpia And Shliach.
And Rabbi Mendy Karp!
I have the zchus to daven in 770 early every morning and I saw him daily learning and preparing himself for his davening.
I also heard many of his positive reports and praise from my children who he has taught in the past.
This is a win-win set up!’
