In a generous gesture, the Chitrik family has donated a library of Seforim to the Yeshiva Campus in Suffield, Connecticut. The library belonged to their late father, Rabbi Hershel Chitrik a respected Talmid Chochom, and B’aal Tzedaka.
This extraordinary library is a collection of over 2000 rare and unique seforim, most were printed in America by early rabbonim who immigrated to the United States. These volumes offer a glimpse into the early days of Torah study in America and remind us of the sacrifice and determination of those who laid the foundations of limud hatorah in a new land.
Among the gems of this collection are works authored by American Rabbonim and Torah giants such as Rabbi Moshe Feinstein, Rabbi J.B. Soloveitchik, and Shmuel Volk and others (most of the collection are seffarim printed in cities around the USA pre 1940 among them are seffarim printed in Boston Massachusetts 1920, Cleveland Ohio 1912, Bronx NY 1922, St. Louis Missouri 1922)
Each sefer in this collection is a testament to the love and dedication of its author. From the busy streets of New York City to the quiet towns of the Midwest, these books tell the story of Torah study in America.
It is up to us to keep this legacy alive, and ensure that these seforim are not just gathering dust but are used and cherished.
