Yisroel Reuven Binyamin Schoenberg, beloved husband and father from Ramat Bet Shemesh, Jerusalem, passed away on Shabbos, Yud Shevat after a long chronic illness which he battled with dignity and courage.
He was 72.
Originally from Cleveland, Ohio and one of 5 siblings, he graduated from Kent State University in Comparative literature and creative writing. Afterwards, he was one of the first pioneer students at Yeshiva Tiferes Bachurim in Morristown, New Jersey in 1972.
Prior to working in computers, he was a Drug counselor for the Chabad Drug Rehabilitation center in Los Angeles.
Reuven worked as a systems computer analyst for many years in Long Beach, CA, Los Angeles, and eventually Israel. He had a great love for davening at the neitz minyan at the Kotel and found great joy among other like-minded chassidim while enjoying their love for single malt scotch whisky and a little sushi.
He was a warrior and a champion who endured great suffering his whole life and yet he prevailed with dignity, perseverance, and tremendous strength.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Chana Schoenberg, who currently resides in Ramat Bet Shemesh, daughter Devorah Lipsh of Ramat Beit Shemesh, sons Yitzy Schoenberg and Tzvi Schoenberg of Jerusalem and extended family Yossi Lipsh and Adaya Heller Schoenberg and grandchildren.
He was laid to rest, Motzei Shabbat Yud Shvat, at Har-Hazetim, Jerusalem.
Baruch Dayan Ha’emes: Yisroel Reuven Binyamin ben Tzvi Hirsch.
He also lived for some years in Crown Heights.
Yes he did. He was a precious genuine soul. I invited him to my home multiple times in CH. I envied with jealousy his honestly realism and dedication. As I initially read this post I was like… I can’t believe this. No. No. No. Ruvein was a special soul sent to this earth to inspire engage and instal. Ruvein has accomplished his mission. A soul from the past.
Please identify yourself. Appreciate your kind and soothing words. Chana Schoenberg.

Ever since that summer of ‘72 when Reuven first visited us in Binghamton, before he went to Morristown, we’ve loved and admired him—his poetry, his sincerity, his caring, his mesiras nefesh. Our hearts go out to you, Chana and family, may you know no more sorrow.
