R’ Shalom Rubashkin, currently visiting Israel, was invited to write a letter in a Torah uniting Jews of all stripes from around the country.
Initiated by Rabbi Dovid Avrohom Pressman of Israel, the project is being done “to create a connection and union among Klal Yisroel, and to hasten the redemption,” organizers said.
Rubashkin, commuted from a harsh prison sentence by President Donald Trump, was very excited to hear stories about prisoners who also took part in writing a letter in this special Torah scroll that unites the entire nation of Israel, they said.
Following his writing, the group joined for a festive dance.
For the past year, Rabbi Pressman has been giving the special privilege of writing a letter in the Torah of Jewish people from all corners of the country, including rabbis, public figures, and even prisoners, who wrote a letter in the Torah.
