Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin, newly released from prison after being commuted by President Donald Trump, publically recited Birchas HaGomel, the “Blessing of Thanksgiving.”
The former executive of the largest kosher meat plant in America arrived at the main shul at 770 Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn, NY, on the Thursday morning after his release.
He was warmly welcomed and filmed by congregants as he walked into the large Chabad synagogue for Shachris prayers. Many have been awake over the night celebrating the news.
Rubashkin, a father of 10 who was harshly sentenced to 27 years, received an aliya to the Torah. He then recited, “Blessed are You, L-rd our G‑d, King of the universe, Who bestows kindness upon the culpable, for He has bestowed goodness to me.”
The large crowd answered with a resounding “Amen!” and began singing the Chabad victory melody of “Didan Notzach!”
