As previously reported, following the intense negotiations between Chanina Sperlin and the City of New York, Saturday parking restrictions on Eastern Parkway have been removed.
The Department of Transportation and the Department of Sanitation have agreed to temporarily suspend Saturday street cleaning on the South Side of Eastern Pkwy Service Lane – from Nostrand Avenue to Schenectady Avenue – for a 3-month trial period.
Last week, signs were changed on the South side of Eastern Parkway, and In the past few days most of the signage was changed also on the North side of the Parkway. The work will be completed within a few days.
Over the next three months, the Department of Sanitation will assess the cleanliness of Eastern Parkway, and evaluate the impact of Saturday street cleaning on Eastern Parkway’s overall cleanliness.
“In New York City a property owner has the obligation to keep the sidewalk in front of his/her property clear of litter,” notes Yaakov Behrman, CB9 Environmental Protection Committee Chairman. “This responsibility does not end at the curb, but extends 18 inches into the city streets. Accordingly, we strongly encourage local residents, organizations, and businesses to comply with this regulation, and make every effort to keep Eastern Parkway clean. There is a high probability that the Department of Sanitation will resume Saturday street cleaning if there is a significant increase in litter.”
“We would like to reiterate our thanks to Mayor Bill de Blasio, Commissioner Carrion, and Pinny Ringel for working on this accommodation to Crown Heights residents,” said Rabbi Eli Cohen of the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council.
why do they think EP needs more cleaning than the rest of CH, I suspect something deeper here, the closest side of EP to 770 has cleaning on friday and saturday, why is it needed two days in a row?
But on crown there is no parking this Shabbas
