The day is not over at 4:00 for 6th-8th graders in Crown Heights. Crown Heights girls are enjoying ballet, photography, stop motion animation, cupcake decorating classes and more, at the Bais Rivkah Teen Club after school program.
BR Teen Club is an after school program welcoming middle school girls in the community, and is FREE of charge. Funded by NYC Department of Youth and Community Development’s (DYCD) SONYC after school program initiative, The Jewish Community Council of Greater Coney Island partnered with Bais Rivkah to bring this invaluable program to our community. Under the leadership of Rabbi Moshe Weiner, JCCGCI’s Executive Director, and Chanie Moskowitz, JCCGCI’s after school programs coordinator, JCCGCI has been able to attain funding for various after school programs in Crown Heights.
The program begins each day with a warm welcome from the staff and a light dinner/snack. Students then have homework and study time with their program teacher to assist. Teachers encourage students to complete their homework, as well as facilitate study sessions and review games before a test. After the study hour, students have a choice of courses they can choose to join. With a large selection of classes, there is something for everyone to enjoy and learn. From a professional photography to drama to crafts or baking, each class is structured with a curriculum and goals for students.
BR Teen Club is a positive after school environment for girls, and a place where every girl can shine. The positive and warm atmosphere creates new friendships, and the opportunity to explore hobbies, interests and talents allows for the building of confidence. Through BR Teen Club, girls get hands on experience with things they would have never had the possibility to do. They can have guitar lessons, photography lessons, craft clubs, cake decorating classes and more all free of charge.
“I am extremely passionate about having extra curricular programming available to everyone, regardless of the income level. Every child and teen should have a way to creative expression.” Says Chanie Moskowitz, the After School Programs Coordinator under the JCCGCI.
Thanks to the dedicated staff, this year’s program has started with a boom, and many happy faces are seen throughout. Mrs. Aidela Rabiski, Program Director; Mrs. Chaya Vaisfische, Assistant Director; Mrs. Shoshana Bar-Chaim, Creative Director; And all of the teacher staff and specialty staff.
