The Chabad Center for Jewish Life and Living at University of Illinois held its first kosher tailgate party outside Memorial Stadium in Champaign on Thursday, September 22.
It happened because the Illinois Fighting Illini college football team didn’t schedule its game against Chattanooga on Shabbos – for the first time.
With hundreds of students, community and alumni joined and the party marked visits by the entire University leadership, including University President Killeen, Chancellor Robert Jones, VC for DEI Sean Garrick, President of the Illinois Foundation Jim More, President of Alumni Association Jennifer Dillavou, and athletic Director Josh Whitman.
“Jewish Life is strong,” Chabad Rabbi Dovid Tiechtel told those gathered. “Let’s keep standing together proud and strong.”
