The Final Resolution – Part 2

Op-Ed by Rabbi Shmully Hecht: “My son wanted out. I drove and picked him up on Sunday morning and brought him home. Interim respite but no sign of relief. We made a few more phone calls. Implored and beseeched for mercy with various Mosdos.” Full Story

Now I understand everything. Only the hechts have it in their blood to go into such situations and bring it into light. Yasher koach! May in the zechus of your grandfather who’s yartzeit is today, may this situation be cleared up speedily and the truth be revealed. Amen!

Shmully, I love you and all but are you seriously suggesting that there’s no such thing as a place being full?

A school should go up to 30 out 35 kids or more in a class if there’s nowhere else for them to go?

The issue here may have been communication – that you should not have had to drive to the camp to only find out then that they weren’t taking him.

The crisis has nothing to do with space. It is about attitudes. I’ll get there eventually with my pen.

What nerve does this camp have to tell you to drive all the way there with your son and THEN turn you down. As if he wanted to
perform this charade in front of your face; would make him feel more authoritative.
What a disgust!

What a low life, if he had you come down to the camp travling a long trip, and then rejecting him from being accepted into the camp. He seems to be a heartless person. In my opinion, he could of made accomodations. He should not of stuck to his stubborn reasoning! I wish you and your son a lot of good luck, hatzlacha raba Bezrath Hashem. And as far as this camp director (or whatever he is)is going to be applied:What goes around, comes around. It will obviously come right back to him from G-D Almighty. Should there but be many moisdos catering to different crowds and types? Or should every moised care to everybody? If there is a benefit in the first option then naturally there will be people that may not be a fit for every one of the moisdos and will need to be told that this school is not going to take you. If it should really be every moised for everyone, then why for example do you have oholei Torah and ULY in the same neighborhood? Why didn’t they just expand OT so that everyone could go there? It would seem… Read more »

How to explain to your child that all his classmates are actually accepted but he is not? Why? What’s wrong with him? How do deal with a personal guilt as a parent that can’t do anything to put the child in a camp,& there is no option a,b,c in any application… each application is a fee of few hundred dollars that sometimes you simply don’t have $ to creat any possible plan B or plan C ( we are a family of few campers not just 1 child, pls, counting each application fee and doing the math – it’s few… Read more »

That the attitude when it comes to a dilemma of money and gashmius hanholo vs hamhala ruchni, say a case when the hanhala gashmius threaten to kick a bochur from the yeshiva because the parents delay the tuition but the hanhala ruchnis dont care that much about the bocher like the gashmius one cares, Being a CHABAD MOSSAD, it should be that the ruchnius staff should care MORE about the bochur than the gashmius cares about, but in the case i know, it wasnt nothing near that, it was much left. To add to that theres also the cold attitude… Read more »

With all that time that it takes you to write this article you may as well open a camp, and do things the way they should be done.

Sad to see things this way
July 24, 2021 11:30 pm

Wow Rabbi Hecht you are a great writer. I found myself both laughing and crying while reading this. It is very sad to see the state of affairs that Lubavitch has become. From my own experience I know my mother begged and pleaded to get my brothers into yeshivas, and we being the “bts” barely having a chance and assuming the “big names” have it easy. I’m sorry to see it isn’t true and more so that the wrong people are left running the show. I’m intrigued to see where this story, or rather this chain of events goes. I… Read more »

Because theres sad news,
In Lubavitch of today there is a very big thing if you have a last name…
I personally dont know how bad is it, everyone likes to have connection, the sad disgusting part of it is when ‘they’ sugar coat it with the Rebbe/hiskashrus/hafotzas hamayonios and other real holy reason, so they can go to sleep without remorse of being this cold attitude, rude and “bribed” by a nice last name…

Did you ever try to get your kid accepted to Teen Camp? THE Teen Camp? The one in Greenfield Park, NY run by The Hecht Family. I probably should stop here. My girls were accepted and had wonderful summer experiences there. BUT, what about all the parents who emailed at just the minute camp registration opened….what about all the parents of daughters who were put on wait lists… I know you’re not responsible for the action of all those with the same last name as yours, but, seriously… start changing the system with the one closest to home. I loved… Read more »

July 25, 2021 12:41 am

There is plenty of room if you are a non religious. There is plenty of infrastructure and room in the hundreds of chabad camps throughout the country.
However for regular frum kids the system is simply overloaded.
Time to shift some resources into newer schools and camps for children from our own communities? Aren’t they important as well?

My head is spinning
July 25, 2021 4:28 am

After reading this, most of it not understood, but two points became clear 1. Shluchim build stunning chabad houses but our own mosdos are horrible. I will give you two reasons for this, 1 our mosdos are used while many grand chabad houses sit empty most of the year, & 2 too much money is ducked out of anash instead of leaving the money at home 2 you seem amazing, one of the many shluchim who should have stayed home & gone into chinuch. Too many of our good ones sit in far flung places, wasting their time hours on… Read more »

Cannot figure out why you drove so far before hearing the sad turn down?!
You should become a writer of several books! I’ll always remember your great math skills at the youngest age.

A good story
July 25, 2021 7:31 am

I had a friend who in Yeshivah wasn’t the caliber that [the Yeshivah in] Brunoy was looking for. So when he applied he was rejected. But the bochur was aspiring to be that type of bochur even though he wasn’t there yet. So he flew to Brunoy for the opening day. He slept (squatted, more aptly) in the Yeshivah classrooms. When he was noticed by the Rosh Yeshivah (perhaps Rabbi Nemenow? I wasn’t in that Yeshivah ever, so don’t remember who it was), the RY said that the Yeshivah was indeed full but he gave him spontaneous admission and told… Read more »

Reb Shmuly, Your writing cuts to the core of the issues we as a community need to address. The fact that Moisdos Lubavitch were hijacked by the few while the masses get bullied, needs introspection, reflection and CHANGE. Sadly, the schools in our community have become cash cows for those running them. You don’t need to look too far, in your state the Mesivta and Zal charge $20,000 USD for one school year! How are parents supposed to come up with that type of money. Now please don’t tell me that it cost that much to run a Mesivta…. because… Read more »

A difficult story to read, yet your middle paragraph is the main point.

Let’s make supporting mosdos chinuch an exciting and exotic cause.

Teachers, principals and administrators are all hard working and under appreciated.

It’s time to make a great shift.

Do it
After years of shluchim living in lala land
And focusing only on their mosdos
All of the sudden they realize they’ve been neglecting the mosdos that they need for their children’s chinuch

For years shluchim have been making sure that none of their donors should chas ve Shalom be approached by any Lubavitcher mosod

My son got rejected from camp this year due to the lack of space. I begged them to please reconsider. Sorry Sir, it’s full. No emotions. Cold like ice. My son was the only kid in his class who was left out of the program. For two months his classmates were talking about everything they were going to do together in camp. My son would listen and cry in silence. I was devastated. His Hanochas Teffilin was taking place during the summer and he was going to have to do it at home by himself. I read Shmully’s first article… Read more »

B”H Oholie Torah are doing something about this issue. They have a capable board and team (people like Nosson Blumes, Yossi Langsam etc..) who have gone and purchased their own campsite so that their talmidim and their parents wont have to worry about where they are going to camp each summer.
