A new sefer Torah that was written in Israel in memory of a special young woman was welcomed to its permanent home in Monsey, New York on Sunday, at an event which united Jews of all types.
The Torah, dedicated by the Farkash family from around the world, was written in memory of their daughter and sister, Riki Farkash obm, who brought joy to all who knew her until her passing last year at the age of 27.
The Torah, which was completed at a ceremony in Jerusalem, was welcomed with great celebration on the 10th of Adar, Riki’s first Yartzeit, to its new home at the Chabad of Olympia Shul in Monsey.
The Shul, which takes place in the home of Dudi Farkash, is an active congregation where every day and especially on Shabbos, close to 100 chassidim of all types join Litvish of all types to daven and farbreng and learn Chassidus.
Hundreds of Jews joined for the celebration event, as Chabad, Satmar, Belz, Viznitz, Pupa, Sefardic, Ashkenazi, and Litvish Jews all joined together in unity to welcome the new Torah.
“The event was such a beautiful show of Achdus, all dancing together on the day of Riki’s Yartzeit, which is what Riki stood for,” Farkash told COLlive. “Riki had no limitations, no boundaries, and nothing could stop her from helping and bringing joy to others.
