Dear Friend,
With the ongoing crisis taking place in Europe after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, over 4.6 million refugees have left the war-torn country to take shelter in all areas of the world. Moldova was among the first countries to welcome refugees, with 411,365 Ukrainians entering and roughly 100,000 refugees remaining in Moldova today. According to UNICEF, more than half of all Ukrainian children have been forced to leave their homes, making close to 50% of Ukrainian refugees children.
Despite being one of Europe’s poorest countries, Moldova has been tasked with the highest number of refugees per capita. In the face of these enormous numbers, Chabad of Moldova is proud of its work in supplying relief in all areas possible. With the holiday of Passover steadily approaching, Chabad is preparing its five refugee resorts to give our Jewish brethren a dignified holiday. From medical necessities, to food, shelter, and even toys for the children, Chabad is there when it’s needed most.
However, there has been a select group of people for whom help seemed to be unattainable, fleeing Ukraine out of the question, and freedom nowhere in sight. These are the physically wounded people who have not been able to escape Ukraine. With constant bombings and mass- killings surrounding them, the wounded have been left behind as the abled flee the country. Without help, these people are likely to remain in the destroyed country to fend for themselves.
Chabad of Moldova is pleased to share that it has recently partnered with Zaka and other organizations to evacuate the wounded from Ukraine. Once brought to safety, hospitals have been set up to treat them until they can be transported to their next destination. With your help, we will be able to extend our activities and offer protection to the rest of our Jewish family in Ukraine.
