We’re Owed an Apology From Governor Cuomo

Op-Ed by Rabbi Yakov Saacks: "Governor Andrew Cuomo is not asking you to stop eating kosher or putting an end to circumcisions. He is asking you to wear a mask and be careful. I personally hate the mask but it is the law. On the flip side, we're owed an apology from the Governor." Full Story

More than an apology
October 22, 2020 10:30 pm

He should be impeached.

He has blood on his hands

His behavior is shocking. Is he tone deaf. The climate is already so anti Semitic , what exactly is he trying to do. My question is why does he get away with it.if it were any other group ……I would be afraid for him

I'm sorry but I disagree

You write “The Governor is not asking you to stop eating kosher or putting an end to circumcision” Do you realize that countless Yeshivos amd Chadorim are being forced closed? Many of my family members have their children stuck at home. The Chinuch of our Tinokos Shel Beis Rabon is NO LESS important than Kashrus etc. The majority of our community realizes the absurdity of these laws and especially considering that if your girls go to a school outside of the zone, and the same brothers from same home can’t go to his! So please don’t downplay what this man… Read more »

We need to be safe. If there is ch”v a magaeifah in the yeshivas & schools and people get sick (mildly or ch”v), game over to kiddush Hashem.

According to the CDC, children have a very very slim chance of getting sick or hospilitized from Covid. The 2 months of summer camps proved that. Stop fear mongering

Firstly masks do plenty harm, but more importantly, the mandating masks is imposed for political proposes, and we do not need to give in to the hypocritical left agenda.

Masks don’t save lives. That’s a bold faced lie. Hydroxychloriquine used early does and he the hypocritic governor himself banned it. So no I won’t take any of his ‘medical’ advice seriously and I will definitely not let him bully me into complying with medical nonsense. Too bad. Masks were researched and used long before covid. My husband can attest to that. The cloth or surgical masks do absolutely nothing to stop a virus from spreading. That’s a basic known fact just as it was last year. The science didn’t change. Only the politicians did. Don’t get fooled. When the… Read more »

Doctors will tell you masks do little harm

I know many people that died or became very ill from not wearing masks but none that died or got very ill from them. People should stop using the “harmful mask” argument to flout science and the medical establishment if not the rule of law.

Not really

A German neuroscientist wrote a paper showing masks on kids and teens is dangerous for their brain development.
A NY nurse I know said the mask is not effective.

The governor and mayor are both anti semites! It’s as simple as that. They just show it in different ways. An apology means nothing! It’s just a bunch of hollow insincere words. Know your enemy for what he is!!!!

Just an apology?

Respectfully R’Saacks, I don’t feel that an apology alone is sufficient. You might do well to remember the year religious Jews had before the shutdown. Knockouts, the shooting in N.J. religious men being beaten in parks… these events were also under the current governance. Those facts being the backdrop under which we entered the ‘pause’ coupled with the undeserved finger pointing at religious Jews, adds up to culpability. It’s not okay! It’s not okay to have the double standard of enforcement. It’s not okay to further harm specifically Religious Jews stores. It’s not okay to shut yeshivas and girls schools.… Read more »

If masks save lives

If masks save lives, why is there an uptick in cases throughout the US, where there are no ultra orthodox jews.

It's not black and white

Masks can’t GUARANTEE against the spread of the virus, you CAN still get the virus, just the chances are significantly lower. It’s obvious that if someone coughs into a mask they are shooting out far less infectious droplets than if no mask on. And the recipient wearing the mask has far less chance of inhaling the droplets if he’s wearing a mask. (The virus itself is tiny and can slide straight through the mask, however the virus is most of the time “wrapped” in droplets which are big enough to be stopped by the mask.)

“Therefore, if there is an uptick in cases in certain communities, it means that you are not doing the right thing” this isn’t necessarily true. First of all in all communities there has been an uptick even if people kept the rules.
