Rabbi Noam Wagner comes from a long line of extremely learned and important Rabbinical scholars. He grew up in Toronto, Canada, and was ordained by the famous Montreal’s Chief Rabbi Pinchos Hirshprung OBM in 1995.
He currently heads the Chabad Yeshiva for college boys in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he currently lives with his family. Rabbi Wagner has a unique perspective on Chassidic philosophy and is recognized for his influence and unique connection with Chabad bochurim.

It doesn’t say anywhere that “since Kiddush is usually on red wine, we don’t make Kiddush when it’s Mazal Maadim”. And then you have to make a pilpul that even white wine or Challah is also included.
The Alter Rebbe writes (siman 271, 3) “there are those who are careful not to make Kiddush during the first hour of the night…. because the first hour is Mazal Maadim and the Samech-Mem rules over it”. This means that KIDDUSH should not be in a time associated with the Samech-Mem. No difference whether it’s on Challah, white wine or red wine!
The Rebbe said it’s sho’os hashovos rather than sho’os zmaniyos, but he never said it’s whatever the clock happens to show as 6 and 7. If that were the case then one could just set ones clock before Shabbos to whatever one liked. That obviously cannot be.
the rebbe said clearly that it goes
after (576 לקוטי שיחות חלק י”ז עמוד, ) which is basiclly the real time of that specific location and the amount of minuets it is off (which is calculated by the amount of degrees it is away from the beginning of its time zone) if you want to find out more i read a very good haaro on this subject in kovetz migdal ohr vol. 9 page 378 (its los angeles kovetz)
I’s specifically for kiddush not Maariv eventhough we say most of the same words
I asked rabbi groner about this. He said the Rebbe held six to seven o’clock. Looking in the footnotes in the alter Rebbe where it cites igros. The Rebbe says clearly in those letters that it is six to seven and not halachic hours.
In those days people felt this inyon and it turned into a MINHAG so of course people will ask questions this place is different that place is 5:59 till 6:59 white wine bread
A minhag is a minhag take it if your comunity does it leave it if they don’t that simple
Isn’t it better to make kiddish earlier by bringing in shabbos earlier then waiting between 6-7.

In NYC it’s from 5:56 to 6:56 (and an hour later in summer). The cheshbon is simple: Either you accept whatever the clock says, in which case in the summer you’ll still keep 6 to 7, and if you want to make kiddush at 6:30 just set your clock half an hour ahead before Shabbos. Or you don’t accept such silly games. If you don’t accept that Mazal Maadim changes every summer just because the government decided to adopt DST, then how can you accept that it changed when the railroads created EST? It’s from the Maharil. I’ve never heard that the Ari Zal even mentions it. (And it seems from the Maharil that in his day the minhag was based on sho’os zmaniyos, not as we practice it today based on sho’os hashovos.)
