Zvi Shkedi, a Lubavitcher chossid who was a scientist and a prolific inventor, passed away on Yom Kippur day – Monday, 10 Tishrei 5781
He was 73 and suffered a prolonged illness.
Born near a Displaced Persons (DP) camp in Germany following the Second World War, he immigrated to the land of Israel and first lived in Jerusalem.
He studied and received a Ph.D. in science from the Weizmann Institute of Science (Machon Vaitzman LeMada), a public research university in Rehovot, Israel.
He later moved to Los Angeles, California, where he was influenced to become close to Lubavitch Chassidus by the legendary Shliach Rabbi Shmuel Dovid Raichik OBM.
He settled in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he raised his family and was part of the Chabad community at the Yeshiva Schools and Lubavitch Center of Pittsburgh.
The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has inventions that Shkedi filed for patents since 1985. In total, the family said he invented 53 patents.
Among them are temperature compensated pressure transducer, compact digital pressure sensor circuitry, capacitive pressure sensor, and Capacitive pressure transducer system.
The most known among them was the Dio Lanetzach (“forever ink”), a durable, water-resistant, flexible, and break-resistant ink for writing Stam (Sifrei Torah, Tefillin and Mezuzos).
“Such ink, when dry, does not dissolve in water and does not crack or peel off the surface, yet, when a mistake needs to be corrected, such ink can be scraped off the surface of the parchment without leaving a visible ink residue on the surface and without causing substantial damage to the parchment,” the description reads.
“The present invention provides for kosher scrolls which are less prone to and more resistant to becoming non-kosher, than scrolls of the prior art,” it says.
He is survived by his wife Sara Chana Shkedi and children Ariel Shkedi – Pittsburgh, PA; Michal Rimler – Monsey, NY; Lior Shkedi – Pittsburgh, PA; Yael Cozokaru – Montreal, Canada; Rabbi Eliran Shkedi – Pittsburgh, PA; Chaya Rochel Shkedi – Monsey, NY; Esther Aidel Rose – Wales, England; Rabbi Chaim Shaul Shkedi – Crown Heights; Bracha Shaindle Shkedi – Pittsburgh, PA, and over 40 grandchildren.
The levaya was held on Wednesday in Pittsburg.
Baruch Dayan Haemes: Zvi ben Shaul
May Hashem send the family strength and comfort
Big loss, may the family have all the comfort they need.
How to contact the family during shiva?
Zvi Shkedi has been working for many years at Bose Corporation. He studied so called phenomenon of “cold fusion” where hi did his research with maximum rigor and scientific accuracy. We all felt great sadness when this project came to the end.
Memory of Zvi will stay forever.
