The New York Jewish Week asked individuals named in their “36 Under 36” list of young leaders and activists about their favorite places to eat Jewish food in the city and to take out-of-town guests.
Here’s what 2 of them answered:
Kylie Unell, a dean’s doctoral fellow at New York University studying German Jewish philosophy and a comedy show producer, recommended Izzy’s BBQ Smokehouse at 397 Troy Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11213. The eatery, run by pitmaster Sruly Edelman, “is not distinctly Jewish, but it is kosher BBQ that rivals the Kansas City BBQ I grew up eating,” she said.
Maayan Zik, a resident of Crown Heights who co-founded Ker a Velt and Kamochah, both of which work for social justice and racial equity, recommended Mozzarella – Crown Heights at 265 Troy Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11213. The dairy eatery serves an array of pasta, sandwiches and shakshuka in a casual space with exposed brick.
What are your favorite restaurants to grab a bite?
Koshertown cafe and Shabbos takeout is pure gold
Mozzarella is an amazing restaurant, they are spot on the flavor!
Izzy is a great restaurant there food is on the money, whatever you choose you can not go wrong
You can walk into Mendys and walk out one minute later with an amazing dinner. Definitely one of my favorite spots in crown heights.
The best, most heimish but not too heimish place around. Sorry there is no more indoor seating. My whole family’s favorite.
