Chabad of South Broward, for the 41st consecutive year, is packing and delivering Purim gift bags to thousand of seniors and homebound in over 20 nursing homes, retirement homes and hospitals.
The campaign is being organized by Rabbi Yossi Lebovics, principal of the Chaya Aydel Seminary.
The Chaya Aydel Seminary students are delivering these Purim gift bags, in a socially distancing manner, with a smile, dressed in Purim costumes, to the delight of over 2,000 lonely seniors, who are extremely isolated this past year, more than any time in their lives.
The Rebbe always demanded, that the joy of Purim must always be brought to the frail and less fortunate – and this year – Chabad of South Broward’s Purim Campaign is so much more meaningful and joyous, than in their first 40 first years combined, of carrying out this humanitarian and priceless Mitzvah!
Chabad of South Broward Headquarters is conducting dozens of Megillah Readings Thursday night Purim, and Friday, Purim day, in a dozen classrooms and lunchrooms, as well as outdoors, to maintain social distancing at all times.
Rabbi Raphael Tennenhaus, Chabad’s Executive Director, says, “the Purim Shalach Monos to the Nursing Homes and other locations was the second major program we conducted, when we arrived in Broward County in 1980. This year, this project takes on so much more meaning, as it helps turn darkness into light more than ever before, and brings joy to so many people who need it most during the Pandemic.”
Many families have also turned to Chabad for financial assistance, to help them celebrate Purim with their families with joy and dignity.
